A Cautionary Tale

hi, I live in a rural area and there are a few options for internet but i decided to give hughesnet a chance seemed like a good deal at the time, I was paying for the elite plan or whatever but now they are claiming i used 180gb in a day they arent really providing an in depth anylasis of my usage just a basic chart claming it. anyway i have like 22 days left on my cycle and im being throttled to like 6 mb now for 96 dollars a month lol unless i wanna spend more money on tokens. The day they say i used that 180 gb my wife was just cleaning the house and I was working outside. we had dinner and watched 1 movie then went to bed. The data usage doesnt make sense and ive looked at it the best to my ability and at this point the data usage seems made up to get people to either spend more on tokens or get an upgrade. I mean why spend 96 dollars on 200 mb when majority of the month ill have 6 now, When I can just got to another isp and spend 60 and have a stable 40 m the whole month. Idk i called and they pretty much said the equipment wasnt there yet I told him my latency was over 600 and he didnt seem to care to much and said something about when the equipment was upgraded i would get an email. Companies like this just take advantage of good hardworking people that they think have nowhere else to go but the truth is there are plenty of other options out there, **bleep** i think even a mobile hotspot would be better than this, wish i woulda done some more research on isp's in my area. Just wanted to share my experience and give a cautionary tale, also I dont care if this "iSnT tHE pLaCe FoR tHis" bye

Geostationary satellite internet has a latency of 600+ ms. Absolutely nothing can be done about this. The round trip distance of the signal travel is upward of 90,000 miles.

Something on your system is burning through data. You need to find out what it is. If you have it connected to a DirecTV receiver, this could very well be the culprit.

Hopefully you're now with your new, perfect ISP, and no longer here.
