Yup, I got a version of this email just today!! I knew it was a scam, though....I'm not that dumb! The hacking is getting worse and I wonder if any of the security software people use actually works........
Hi Mary, if there is any security SW that will block this type of email Im sure the hackers will find a way around it, but you can right click on the email and flag it as spam or junk and your email program show throw it in the junk folder from then on.
The FTC is another office used in extortion scamming too, as is the dewpt of immigration! Those others are classic 419 Nigerian scams. They also spam forums with phoney loan offers. They are as obvious as can be! From the US we see extortion Scammers claiming people owe, sometimes its payday loans along with any other imaginary you owe XXX they can think of. They work off fear, telling people if they don't pay, they will be arrested etc. Debt is a civil matter, not criminal. And those payday loans (illegal in some states), they try to claim check fraud on - not happening!
Craigslist is good for scammers to try at. They usually want to have someone else pick up the merchandise and say their partner will leave a check or money order for it....But that is a scam....they will have your stuff and the check will bounce.
I only have about 22 people on my Facebook page I use with family and friends, but my business page can have as many outside people who wants to make a post or like it. Still could make me vulnerable to scammers, perverts, rapists, murderers, BUT that's why I arm myself while out alone!
