Yea, that nonsense statement always seems to be in there.

Bottom line, never click on a link that asks you to update CC info. And thanks Liz, have a great weekend.

One of the tricks most email providers have now is the ability to see where the email actually arrived from. Hovering or clicking on the email address will show some funny email addresses that are in no way associated with who the email is supposedly from.

Thank you Liz for posting this. 🙂  It makes me wonder why these thieves are still trying this kind of thing though.  It kinda rates right up there with the nigerian scams and the Microscammer calls.  SMH!

For the same reason the phone scams are still going on, more than we realize fall for them.

Yup, and its sad, this stuff has been all over in the news and people still fall for these scams.  I guess people just don't bother to read the news or listen anymore!

The latest one is the IRS scam. Can you imagine being smart enough to own three business' and falling for that? Well, some woman did. She burst out crying and said she was pregnant and couldn't afford to be in trouble with the IRS. The scammer on the other side of the phone, said you're pregnant? Never mind, this call is a scam and hung up.

I read that! Most of those calls are coming from India and Pakistan.  I volunteer time on one of the caller complaint sites so stay up with these.  The other one they use is a fakeroo government grant.  I've seen all three crop up under the same number, just go from one to the other.   Yesterday saw shills for the IRS scam.  Its twoo, its twoo.. NOT!   They even registered so they could mark down the people saying scam and the regulars who provide the information on how to report it..  What they didn't count on, was about 40 plus regulars!  So they didn't get away with that at all.

Yup, I got a version of this email just today!!  I knew it was a scam, though....I'm not that dumb!  The hacking is getting worse and I wonder if any of the security software people use actually works........

Hi Mary, if there is any security SW that will block this type of email Im sure the hackers will find a way around it, but you can right click on the email and flag it as spam or junk and your email program show throw it in the junk folder from then on.

The FTC is another office used in extortion scamming too, as is the dewpt of immigration! Those others are classic 419 Nigerian scams.  They also spam forums with phoney loan offers. They are as obvious as can be!  From the US we see extortion Scammers claiming people owe, sometimes its payday loans along with any other imaginary you owe XXX they can think of.  They work off fear, telling people if they don't pay, they will be arrested etc.   Debt is a civil matter, not criminal. And  those payday loans (illegal in some states), they try to claim check fraud on - not happening!

You can also attach a copy and send to the FTC here:

Here are the instructions on how to do it:

I get those all the time by emails too, I reply to them and give them a good whopper of a story and they usually leave me alone after that!

You can never be too safe! 🙂   Google your name & number also, any place such as Spokeo that shows up, make them remove your info!

Craigslist is good for scammers to try at. They usually want to have someone else pick up the merchandise and say their partner will leave a check or money order for it....But that is a scam....they will have your stuff and the check will bounce.

I only have about 22 people on my Facebook page I use with family and friends, but my business page can have as many outside people who wants to make a post or like it. Still could make me vulnerable to scammers, perverts, rapists, murderers, BUT that's why I arm myself while out alone!

Yes it will, better then a super ball in a concrete building! 🙂  Email -  I wouldn't answer them at all Purg. Especially if its the DC ones.  Also something that comes in the mail, like these fakeroo checks, those fall under the jurisdiction of the Post master!

Yup, there's a bunch of extortion scammers sending threats ala email as well. Neither phone, fax or email are legal proof of debt owed. Those can be attached to a complaint filed with IC3, the cyber crimes division of the FBI.
