Big Windows 10 Update August 2

Hello!

For the Windows 10 users out there, be aware of this significant update to come August 2.

Please remember that Windows 10 updates are automatically downloaded and installed to your computer, and you may only schedule when your PC reboots to complete the installation.

So if you notice your data allowance depleting faster than usual on/after August 2, it's due to the Windows 10 update.

Here's how to schedule the post-update reboot so that it does not interrupt you during an inopportune moment:

For details on what's included in this update, please check this out: http://www.computerworld.com/article/3089869/microsoft-windows/microsofts-big-windows-10-update-laun...

I'm glad you posted that so the reps in here will be able to see it.  That rep that gave you that info is 100% wrong.

The update being released tomorrow absolutely will use your data.

All I can say is I don't want to see Jezra's post if the update doesn't use data. >.>

Make sure you have everything backed up.  System image, here.

Hi Sally,

Thank you for letting us know about this. We have located your account and will be reviewing all the interactions you had with our agents to better educate them on our policies and procedures.

As a final answer, the original "promotion" was that we allowed all our customers to download the Windows 10 update without using their data, however since this is just a patch type update and the promo I mentioned is over, the update will still count against your bandwidth,

Hope that clears things up

All Hughes net would have to do is give a 1 day credit on everyone's bill for updates . It wouldn't matter if some didn't do the update, their choice. All would be equal !

We heard you equally well the first time.

Plus a one day bill credit does not equal one day of data credit depending on the plan.

It is basically giving MS Windows favoritism and some made that clear the last time they gave a break for a Windows update.

So a break whenever there is an iOS, Android, Linux update? It is what Bonus time is for. Can't believe a lot of people aren't up at 6 Am getting ready for work and can't start a download.

Also, the size of the total update process can vary.  Mine was 3.7GB, but that doesn't mean everyone else had the same.

My Linux Mint 17.3 updated yesterday to the tune of 85 MB
It was well within my plan limits so no give-aways needed here.

Gwalk the smartie pants. Mint is sweet, most likely my next primary OS, sure won't be Windows 10.

In fact think I'll dual boot into it now and get updates. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, come on now.  Windows 10 is the greatest, best, most wonderful OS ever created!  It can do....well....lots of things, and they are all super duper great!  I mean...Cortana!  And some super great "Connect" thing.  I don't know what it is, but it's super great.

Back to reality.  I like Mint, as well.  It works well, does what it's supposed to, it's easy to update what you want and when you want, and it's truly free, not free with an asterisk.  Plus, it's real easy on the resources.  It doesn't take much to run Mint.  There are all kinds of programs for it, as well, and again, free.  Heck, it looks good, too. 🙂

So the the heck am I supposed to do for the rest of the month!?! This is bull! I better be reimbursed for my data or I'm not paying!

Sally,

Have you made any attempt at finding the cause of your data loss ?

The normal procedure is to start off with a LAN disconnect test:

This will determine if the Hughes Modem is using data on its own. If no data is used during the testing period then we can only conclude that something on your network is using the data.
