Transfer of ftp files?

Does hughesnet block ftp files? I have a software program called Sentinel made for the programming Uniden scanner radios. The program receives database updates every Monday which are ftp files. The Uniden forum I'm a member of says ftp file transfer is blocked, by Hughesnet can anyone confirm this? Thanks!  Smiley Frustrated

HughesNet does not block ports, however, if it uses SFTP (secure FTP) instead of regular FTP there may be issues with congestion. Satellite internet does not employ any kind of acceleration (either web or TCP) with secure protocols.

Another potential issue is that the particular path to wherever you're trying to connect to (uniden?) might be inhibited by HughesNet as part of their home work/school prioritization. It may also be inhibited by anyone on the path for that matter - including the destination. You can try doing a traceroute to see where any hiccups might be.

I'm just going by all of the persons on the Radio Reference Forums who have had or switched, to hughesnet that can not receive their weekly updates to their Sentinel software program nor, important firmware upgrades for their scanner radios.

Never trust the internet for reality. People make things up all the time.

In reality, it looks like the problem is somewhere in Level3's routing through Dallas:

Level3 is now owned and operated by CenturyLink... They're awful.
