If HughesNet webmail and account information is secure without showing https, why is https used on this site and to log into an account? I asked this question on one of my calls in to HughesNet support, and was advised all of the pages are secure since it is a satellite service. The old HughesNet legacy account page remained https even after logging in.
Anywhere that credit card information could be shown/entered, or logon and account information could be entered tends to be secure.
Thank you for getting back to me Corrosive. What concerns me is that after logging in on a secure page, all account information/invoices are shown on a non secure page - the same with webmail. This community page stays on a secure connection after logging in, why isn't personal information also kept encrypted after the initial login?
Hrm, interesting, only things dealing with logon are staying secure, and the community stays secure...
@Liz can you shed some light on why when I go to My Account > Account Information after logging in, or pretty much anything else, why the website doesn't default to HTTPS?
It's not entirely a disasterous thing since it looks like when entering in billing information like a new credit card it stays secure, and the logon it self is going through a secure system... Still bothersome the whole site isn't using SSL.
I can't seem to find it, but practically the exact same question was asked some months back. I can't remember the answer though. I wish I could find the post.
Thanks for checking, GabeU. I could not get anything to come up on the community search engine or elsewhere.
It alarms me to have webmail without https, so I have webmail set up to delete as soon as it is delivered to my computer and never use the webmail unless I have to with a Hughes or Apple tech person. It makes me worry about how secure our emails are. Thanks for your continued help Corrosive!
Hi HDD,
Welcome and thank you for bringing this to our attention, that's a good question and I understand your security concern. I'll ask our developers about why not all pages in the Support Center use HTTPS. I'll post back once I have any news to share.
Hi Liz,
Thanks for the welcome to the community and checking with the developers on the Support Center HTTPS issue. I would also like to know why hughesnet webmail doesn't use HTTPS.
Hi HDD,
Yes, I've including that detail as well in my inquiry to the developers. I'll post back once I have any news to share.
Hi Liz,
Would you please resubmit my question to the developers?
Thank you,
Helen
Good morning Helen,
Thanks for reaching out, I've pinged the devs about this since I never heard back.
