Beam 55 2 Months Later

After 2 months, it appears Beam 55 for me is performing better than one month before.

I have noticed the bonus period speeds are not good, after 8 Am, they magically recover.

I am not in FAP, but will be in a few days, this will be the next test, whether the service is usable for videos without buffering, and sites load in a reasonable time.. Time will tell. I will report on that .

Liz asked for patience, as it takes time to diagnose problems, and effect remedies.. The performance is not what it was at the debut of Gen5, however it is tolerable. I do have 4Glte available, but I am in a 2 years contract, and Gen5 is a better buy than 4Glte. At least I do have options, others do not.

Thanks Liz , and Hughes staff Smiley Wink

What has your late evening speeds been like?  Say around 8PM to 9PM?

While not in FAP, it may be OK but man, this last month for me up to November 28th when my month started over, while in FAP was painfull.

I see slow-ups right now during peak but so far it has been usable, but that is when not in FAP.  I find once FAP hits, and that speed comes down, I was getting 150K down and 12K up.

I will fall in FAP again in about 4 days, so will know soon enough if I will have 20 days of painful speeds at night.

Last month I was in FAP 9 days in.... this month I am going a tad better, watching barely any YouTube vids and think I only watched 1 show of Netflix....  so may stretch that 9 days in to 12.5 days in before I FAP.

Once Hughes settles the main speed issue, I will upgrade to the higher plan so I don't FAP as early but no way I will do that with the slow speeds we have on Beam 55 right now.  Why pay more unless it is 100%.  But I will when that time comes.  Hope that is soon!

Re: Beam 55 2 Months Later

I have been waiting to try Gen5 after we are in FAP.

This has not happened yet.

We noticed during the troubles 2 months earlier, our allowance was exhausted we felt 1-2 weeks prematurly. Our usage is consistant, we were surpriced to see our allowance depleted so quickly. No devices, smart Tv, etc were eliminated, just our 2 devices, a pc, and Kindle use Gen5..

Since the apparant fix to Gen5, we see our allowance back to our previous usage before the troubles.

We are curious to why the return to our allowance being adequate?

I did not reply to Tj because I expected to be in FAP, and could then answer his question as to how my FAP performance was, as he said his was abysmal in the evening.

I don't know if we will FAP before our next reset, as we still have 14% left reset is in 4 days.

Hope everyone in Beam 55 has had their service restored as mine was.. Thanks to Liz, and knoiwledgeable posters, and the Hughes techs,

So I am in FAP again. I lasted 13 days instead of the 9 my first month.  This was with the possible help of adblockers on my main systems and very limited video streaming from YouTube or Netflix.

Anyway, I was able to speedtest last night around 9:45PM so a tad late for that normal slow-down to test as it seems worse between 7 and 9PM but I did get somewhat OK download at 9:45pm but upload was fairly poor.

My download at 9:45PM during FAP was 900K and my upload was 200K.

I would say the 900K was do-able for basics but a bit too slow to watch any video from YouTube as 900K seems more like 500K and buffering was bad, etc...  Upload is pretty bad during FAP still at 200K.  Should be much higher in my opinion.

I will try and test tonight at 8PM and see what I get.

Re: Beam 55 2 Months Later

Last night ran tests again and during the 8PM hour.  500K to 800K range for downloads.  The one upload I ran was 800K.  Better than the 12K I had last time around.

But this morning and not in FAP before 8AM my speeds are bad.  2.98Mbps down.  Upload was fine above 1Mbps.

The day speeds at all hours during FAP that are at least 1Mbps (and a real 1Mbps not) and uploads in the same arena, I will be happy.

But as you can see, even not in FAP speeds are bad still on Beam 55.  Getting under 3Mbps not in FAP is bad bad.

Re: Beam 55 2 Months Later

Agree, the speeds are all over the place, Bonus time, below 1Mb, then 20 . During the day, mostly under 15.usually low single digits. Are they still working on it? A slight improvement, but not what it once was..

I keep seeing ads on the Tv, with those great speeds advertised. That irks me.

Until they announce something, I don't think some of us need to run speed tests anymore.  Just my opinion but I seem to run them anyway.

Obviously it appears to be a long drawn out issue and with a known issue on beam 55, as some others too, it seems like it will be a drawn out fix and nothing immediate like they forgot to flick the light switch that makes all the lights like Chistmas Vacation movie with Chevy Chase to come on.  hehe.

I am just kind of dealing with it now.  My service works, poorly, and I guess some of us can just hold out hope they get this thing figured out.

I almost sense it is something not at the satellite level but on the ground... like they need to build out more ISP related things to allow better access for us all, not that the actual sat is an issue.

But I am only guessing and have no idea other than the service is dirt slow during peak hours and can also be all over the map for speeds the rest of the time.
