Hello,
As per the subject, I recently upgraded to Gen5. Ever since I have had troubles connecting to, and staying connected, with a game I have played on Gen4 for the last 2 years (World of Warcraft). I contacted Blizzard via a support ticket and ran a Traceroute:
The Blizzard Tech replied:
I have no idea what any of that means. What I want to know, is are these numbers normal for satalite internet? If so, what could be causing the connection issues with Gen5; that Gen4 didn't have a problem with?
If this is what is causing the issue, I was hoping to get a phone # to contact a Tier 3-4 tech directly instead of calling general support and praying they can/will connect me to one.
Those results are perfectly normal for Satellite internet, and are actually rather low for it as well.
While not a WoW guy, Diablo III and SC2 work perfectly fine for me most of the time on Gen5... What beam are you on? You can find your Beam ID at http://www.systemcontrolcenter.com/#!/home/information
Could you be a bit more detailed about the connection issue? Are you getting a lot of disconnects or?
Satellite Name | EchoStar-19-NAD |
Gateway ID | 6 |
Beam ID | 49 |
Outroute ID | 3 |
What is happening, is when I can actually log into the game, after a while if I try to zone into a dungeon it will throw me back out and give the error "Transfer Aborted: Instance not found"... That is how it started, then it got worse to the point where I was trying to just move my character from one point to another; it would give that error and punt me back to where the character started moving from. It would do this repeatedly until I gave up and logged out.
Then if I tried to switch servers it would boot me out to the login screen and give the error "World Server is Down". I confirmed that many of my other friends were playing currently on that server, some were even in the same area that my character was in.
Edit (Couldn't remember this error, just got it): Other times when trying to start up the game for the first time, at the login screen I get "You have been disconnected. (WOW51900328)"
I've seen other posts on these forums about certain Beams having troubles, is Beam 49 one of those?
I suppose I should also mention that this isn't just one character or one server, it happens whichever character I choose on any server.
I tried daisy chaining another router (one we used for wifi when on Gen4, a TP-Link TL-WR841N), then setting up a static IP through windows 7 and attempting port forwarding through that 2nd router. I had my computer plugged into it directly so that I could confirm I wasn't on the new routers WiFi. I was on the TCP/IPv4 protocol.
Nothing... then again I've read a lot about people trying to get static IP's to work for security cameras and it being a nightmare... so I may have missed a step somewhere and wasn't really utilizing the port forwards. Its been a LOOOONG time since those networking classes.. lol
Anyone have anything I can try out? I'm out of ideas
@GJDunlap, there are no static IP addresses on Gen 4 or 5 for residential accounts.
