Connectivity Issues and speed with new Gen5 upgrade

I upgraded to Gen5 on Monday of this week and ever since, my HP 8620 printer won't work unless I connect through my LInksys 1900 AC router.  If the Linksys router is connected with the new Hughes Net modem/router then sometimes my connection to the Linksys will disconnect and automatically connect to the Hughes Net modem/router.  The speed is also not reaching 25 mbps download or the 3 mbps upload.  I am very frustrated.


I spent over an hour on the phone with Hughes Net this morning and then after being on hold while the guy checked on something I was disconnected.

When you connect it to the Hughesnet HT2000w, you may have to go through the install process for the printer again.  You also need to check and make sure it has a proper IP address in its settings if connecting wirelessly.

If your printer has 192.168.0.x, you won't be able to communicate with it as the HT2000w uses 192.168.42.x (or .42.x), until you make sure the IP addressing is setup properly.

Another issue could be the modem DNS isn't tracking DHCP leases like you would expect, so you may have to statically assign an IP to the HP printer in the Wifi Settings, and connect to that IP when adding the printer.

As for the speed concerns, you should create a account and perform 3-5 tests during different parts of the day. Then share the account results link with us here.

Please keep in mind that Hughesnet will only accept and the official Hughesnet speed test results. Tests from other sites like are not accepted due to the compression technologies and latency that satellite deploys.

Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-use the 12MB size download test file ONLY if on Gen4 Service Plan
-use the 25MB size download test file ONLY if on Gen5 Service Plan


-If testing upload instead of download, you must use a 4MB size upload test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
