I have had this problem most of this month!! Here are the case numbers from having to call support to no avail to straighten the problem out.I have Gen 4 modem is HT1100! Case numbers I have are 47156914 on 4/11/15, 47165480 on 4/12/15, 47181619 on 4/13/15, 47183648 on4/14/15, 47200704 on 4/14/15, 47312526 on 4/21/15 and still have not gotten the DSN server errors fixed! Here is what I have done rebooted computer several times, changed dns server to the 126.96.36.199 and 188.8.131.52, cleared cache, unplugged evrything from wall,done flush DNS, cleared cache and cookies. Well after all this support told me my computer was messed up and refered me to hometec which I have to pay $9.99 a moth for 12 months until paid! So hometec said they could not find anything wrong with my computer, and now I'm still having the same issues and out of money to find out it wasn't my computer. Someone needs to fix this I pay to much money to not be able to use the internet..
WJA, I have windows 7 desktop, and I have unplugged the router from the modem. It's not the router I just bought it 2 weeks ago, and have done everything as far as trouble shooting. I still have the same results with the router unplugged and computer plugged straight to modem. I have been on the phone with support almost everyday and still nothing! Was referred to hometec because hughes said that it was something wrong with my computer, so now I'm left paying $ 9.99 for 12 months to find out its not my computer. So my husband had our local computer geek come look at my computer which he told me the same thing hometec told me nothing is wrong with my computer.I ave tried opening browser in explorer and google chrome and still same thing. I have unplugged modem from wall, done a dns flush, changed servers to google servers, run every test that could be done! I'm at the end of the rope as to what to do next. I would appreciate any help..And might I add this is the only computer in the house besides my phone...
Sarah, that last picture should definitely not happen. What address is your router set to? It must not be set to 192.168.0.1 as that is the address of the modem. If you still have the error when plugged directly into the modem and go here http://192.168.0.1/ then there has to a problem with your computer or the HughesNet modem. If you see the System Control Center at the link then at least that portion of things are good.
Some antivirus programs run you through their DNS server like the Comodo antivirus and it will cause you to get the DNS error on every page, try uninstalling your Antivirus temporally and see if you can browse that way.
Charles Scott, Champion everything is configured correctly, hometec checked that to! The router I have is a Belkin N300 XR Wi-Fi N Router...Also when I completely unplug router It does the same thing..
Open an elevated command prompt and type in "nslookup" with out the quotes and press enter, type the information out here, you should get a Default Server and an Address. You should be getting something other than 192.168.0.1 if your using a router.
Thank you for all the great information! I find it strange you can't access systemcontrolcenter.com and the messages are telling you the default gateway is not available. This is going to be a very long post, but I would like you to test your internet connection after every step.
1. Check your internet settings
Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings
Once in LAN Settings, please ensure that the only box that is checked is "Automatically Detect Settings"
2. Check your adapter settings
Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings // Right click on Local Area Connection and select "Properties"
The properties box will appear. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and click on the Properties button. Ensure both the circles for Obtain IP/DNS address automatically are selected. Click OK
3. Reset your network settings
Click start and open your Command Prompt by right clicking the Command Prompt and selecting "Run as Administrator". You can also search from the search bar after clicking Start and typing CMD in the search box.
Type in the following line and hit enter: netsh winsock reset You will need to restart your computer.
There are a lot more things we can do, but if we have to do more than 3 steps I would rather you speak with a technician here in our office. Let me know if any of these steps get you working.
