Data meter isn't correct

I check the meter often during the day, won't lie! I said 99% for the first two days. I watched some videos and it dropped 95% which is fine, but now it says 99% and it hasn't been the next month yet. Why is it doing this? How do I fix it?

Some times it says error on the meter as well.

houston8180,

The only thing I can suggest is to uninstall the status meter, then download it from the site ( http://my.hughesnet.com/ ) and install it again.  I don't know if you have the modem on constantly, but if you do, you could try power cycling that, as well (unplug it (from the plug end, not at the back of the modem), wait for a minute, then plug it back in).

Remember, too, that you can always see your data amounts at the system control center at

http://systemcontrolcenter.com/

or sign in at

http://my.hughesnet.com/

and see your data allowance and usage there.

I hope this helps.

Re: Data meter isn't correct

Good morning houston8180,

Welcome to our community! Are you a new customer in your first month? If so, you probably received an e-mail when signing up about our relaxed download period. This can take place in either the first 20 or 10 days of having the service set up (depending on what service you got). Many people who sign up for HughesNet have never had internet before or have not had it in a very long time, so connecting a device to the internet for the first time may trigger some large software downloads such as Windows or iOS updates. To help with that, we constantly reset your data. We're glad you got the status meter and reached out to us so we can start helping you accurately track your usage.

By visiting http://supportcenter.myhughesnet.com you can check your usage to keep track of what you are actually using during this period, if that is the case. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you
Amanda

My wife came running into the office wondering what the honk had happened. "HughesNet is finally telling people about the first 20 days. Finally!" I had literally hollered out loud "Whoa!"

Eek!  With all of the time I spend telling new people about the 10 to 20 days of resets, it never even dawned on me that that is what it could be.  An early senior moment, perhaps.  LOL.

Except people ignore emails a lot. Smiley Tongue

At least a step in the right direction. Should be in in a "Quick Start" guide for new customers IMO.
