Data usage

Re: Data usage

And like Amanda said, if you don't really need the desktop and aren't comfortable in doing the installation, you can just use your Windows 7 laptop and save up for new computer at a later date.  Those all in ones are getting pretty inexpensive nowadays.

Re: Data usage

Hi Amanda,

Just to let you know that My data meter still does not go past my refill date of 10/10/2016. I have checked all meters and all look the the same. Thanks for the info on Linux from you and GabeU. I installed it today on my desktop....very proud of myself. Now I just have to learn it. If you could let me know what to do about my data meter. I have no way of seeing what times my data disappeared on my refill date. Thanks again.

Re: Data usage

dgjlovette, I feel your financial pain! I don't believe in credit, so I save up and pay cash for everything. Last January I bought an old fixer-upper mobile home (yes, for cash), and I'm learning as I go how ridiculously expensive everything connected with fixing up a house is! I really, really need a backup generator because we have frequent power outages in this neck of the woods, but it's not happening before January. Then there's the alternator that went out on the van the other day...

Anyway... KUDOS for installing Linux! My son is currently a computer science major at MIT, and it's the only OS he'll use on his own computers.

So are you saying that even on your laptop that has W7 you can't see the status meter past the 10th?

I'm wondering if dgjlovette can still get the free W10 download on the laptop, or is the free period over?

Re: Data usage

Chewagirl my status meter is the same on the laptop and desktop. It doesn't go past my refill date of the 10th.

Re: Data usage

Well in that case we can't blame it on XP, since it also isn't working on the laptop running W7. I assume you've checked it out with the desktop now running Linux? If so, we can safely say it's not an OS issue. I also assume you've used the staus meter in the past and it always worked correctly until the 10th?

Re: Data usage

Yes, it has always worked before.

Re: Data usage

dgjlovette,

I'm glad you were able to install it.  Sometimes doing something like that can be a little scary for someone that has never done it, but I'm glad that you were able to do so.

As for the data, you could try Jezra's Linux meter that BirdDog mentioned.  I don't know if it will allow you to see the times of the data usage on your refill date, but if I remember it's a pretty decent meter.
