The download speed is either excellent as it should be (15-23 mbps) or it is very poor (I've seen as low as 0.13 MB but anywhere under 1 MB)
Just noticed this a few days ago, but since then it's been happening daily, and due to some intermittent performance issues I've had since the install (without doing a speed test) I would say it's probably been going on since the install 10 days ago.
Download speed issue occurs across both wired and wireless, multiple devices. Have confirmed with speed tests.
I have not tried testing the 5 ghz band speed because I doubt it would be different and I'm not going to use it anyway. Weather does not appear to be a factor
Anyway I've been pretty happy with Hughesnet so far, especially living where I live. The connection hasn't once dropped altogether and this is my main concern. I can live with high latency and all that.
Though speeds can certainly fluctuate, they normally follow a bit of a pattern if they do, with slower speeds usually occurring early in the morning and early to mid evening, not really throughout the day. But, even when they do occur, a speed of 0.13Mbps is VERY low, and if you're regularly seeing speeds below 1Mbps it's not good.
For speed issues, the reps will need some speed tests done, but they need to be done in a certain way. The following contains the protocol for the speed tests. Additionally, because of the holiday, the reps won't be back in the office until Tuesday.
To help the HughesNet Customer Service Reps get a head start on your speed concerns, please create a testmy.net account (if you do not already have one) and, while signed into that account, perform 3-5 tests during different parts of the day, then share the account results link with us here.
Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-disable the WiFi while the speed tests are being performed
-use the manual 25MB size download test file
-If testing upload instead of download, please use the manual 4MB size upload test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
-post your testmy results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/yourusername
For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please visit: http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Pages/7001.aspx
The Reps are on M-F from approximately 8AM to 5PM Eastern. They will be the ones to address your speed issues, but they will need these tests to do so.
If you are unaware of how to disable the WiFi in the HT2000W, please see "How do I manage my built in WiFi modem?" in this PDF. Make sure to click "Save Settings" after unchecking SSID Enable for each radio individually, as unchecking all four, then clicking "Save Settings", will not hold the settings.
