Fast speed test, slow internet

I am a new customer, about a week in, and from day 1 I have had slow browsing speeds and can't watch anything without buffering for minutes even on 720P. When I speedtest through here I am getting speeds of around 50-60 MBPS but am definitely not getting that. I went to a third-party website for a speedtest and it showed around 2 MBPS. What's the deal???

Re: Fast speed test, slow internet

If Video Data Saver is enabled, and you are tying to play video at 720P or higher resolution, then you will have frequent buffering.  Try disabling Video Data Saver, or setting your streaming resolution to Auto or Standard Definition.

To help the Hughesnet Customer Service Reps get a head start on your speed concerns, you should create a testmy.net account and perform 3-5 tests during different parts of the day. Then share the account results link with us here.

Please keep in mind that Hughesnet will only accept testmy.net and the official Hughesnet speed test results. Tests from other sites like speedtest.net are not accepted due to the compression technologies and latency that satellite deploys.

Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-use the 25MB size download test file ONLY

-If testing upload instead of download, you must use a 4MB size upload test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
-post your results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/C0RR0SIVE

For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please visit: http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Pages/7001.aspx

Re: Fast speed test, slow internet

I jhave what may be a similar problem. While the Hughes speed test reportts download speeds in the 20 Mb range, a test using OOKlA run just before and just after shows downloads in the 2 Mb range. Internet response seems much more consistent with the latest estimate than the former. What is the explanation for such radically different results? I am running Win 10 and using an 1100 modem, connected by LAN.

Re: Fast speed test, slow internet

Don't use those, as they both may give misleading results. Part of the issue is how they process the timing and collection. The other part is where each is physically located.

Best to use TestMy (http://testmy.net) with a server that's closest to your particular gateway, using 25MB for download or 3MB for upload as a standard.
