How do I redeem the tokens?

The coding for this so called status meter appears to be written by people that have no business writing code what's so ever. I know 10 year olds that can write sensible code 1000 times better because they care about what they do. I was on the phone over half an hour yesterday trying to resolve other issues like forming a RELIABLE connection. The tech was nice but completely inept and as I guessed, solved nothing. Frankly put, I could care less about the download speed, all I want is a R-E-L-I-A-B-L-E connection not having to continually reload pages.

Back to the status meter which I recently updated. I noticed yesterday that I was about to go over, so I purchased tokens. One would think that as soon as they were purchased (in this case I bought 2 Gig) that it would be reflected within the meter and turn back to green.... Not happening. I was told by the inept tech guy that I had to manually transfer these tokens. REALLY? Then I come to find out that I had a total of almost 5 Gig available to me that I also purchased over the last 2 1/2 months. Hey HughesNet... in case you missed the memo..... We're in the 21st century. Quit being STUPID!!!

Additionally the tech gave me instruction as to how to actually use the available bonus bytes. He directed me to www.programmanager.com which would allow me to automatically download movies etc during this time. I went to the site only to discover that the URL is just parked, and up for sale or rent. There is nothing there. Grrrrr! Like I said completely in(frickin)ept!

In closing I honestly feel that this company does not care about this so called SERVICE they provide. We're shackled to this contract and they can suck the fees right out of our accounts as they are pretty much guaranteed cash flow! Sad, sad, sad!

Go to the purchase tokens option, then "use" a token, give it a few minutes to show in token bytes available. This is actually in place to protect you from unauthorized usage.

Yeah, I was also thinking that the two-step Purchase, then Apply also helps prevent people from accidentally using up tokens before they really need them.

Yep, ways to make buying and using tokens secure so the kids or guests can't "use" them.

Kenny,
When you purchase a token you "own" but it is not automaticly ready for use.
Even after you "use" it becomes available .... but is NOT added to your Anytime Bytes data bucket and for good reason. If it was added to your regular Anytime bucket and your allowance refilled you would lose the value of your purchased data.
Instead it is added to your Token Bucket. When your plan refills you then draw from your Anytime bucket and the unused token balance remains.

I'm re-reading this just now as the "main" problem you were writing about, and the rest was just further aggravation. Let us know how we can help.

Kenny,

This is a link to the previous version of the status meter, version 6.2.  Some people have been having issues with the recently released version 6.5.

Hello Kenny,

Welcome to our community and thank you for your post. We agree with El Dorado Networks - we here you aren't happy with the token process but there seems to be an underlying concern we should address about your system performance. Are you having these connection troubles because you've exceeded your allowance, or do you have an unreliable connection even when there is plenty of data in your bucket? It would be good to know a bit more about your concerns so we can assist. Looking forward to helping you.

Thanks,
Amanda

The "Usage" is not updated in "Realtime". I watched a Fox news video on Monday, and the gigabite of usage didn't show up until Wed. a.m. This morning the graph shows usage thru yesterday. So it is a little more up to date.

Yea I'm at my wits end regarding this whole network. I've spoken to several of my neighbors who are also on HN. Same sketchy service. When I was with Wild Blue the service wasn't best however it was reliable with the exception of bad weather, snow storms, and thick heavy rain. Was on the phone with a tech for over 30 minutes, plugging this in, unplugging that, bypassing the router, go to purple page, referring me to a parked website for use of bonus bytes blah, blah, blah.... Maybe all this bs isn't the case for some users, however me and some of my neighbors are fed up!

Hello Kenneth,

We understand your frustration in all of this, and we are trying to help you resolve your concerns. I think the best way we'll be able to help you is if we can get some more specific info from you. I see you've been a customer since February and recently called in about slow browsing. The conclusion to that call seemed to point to your router as the issue. While directly plugged into the modem you were able to access all pages etc. On the other hand the router did not allow this.

I also see mentioned that you have the router in another room away from the HughesNet modem? Not sure if you've already set the router to a specific IP address, however you need to make sure it is not sharing the same IP as the modem. This can sometimes be the case with router and connection issues. I'm sure if we get a bit more info to clear these things up, we can recommend some solutions. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you,
Chris

Thanks for the reply however the router isn't the issue. I went through the whole routine with phone support. The modem is 3' away from the router as I told the rep. and I did the unplug router/ bypass/ plug back in. Was getting same results either way. Still unreliable and having to constantly reload pages. If the IP is the issue (which it isn't) why didn't the installer make the necessary adjustments?

Hi Kenneth,

If your installer set up your network with the router you currently have, then it should have been done correctly. You can typically see what your router IP address is accessing it locally through a connected computer. A quick search of your router manufacturer and model number should give you instructions on how to do this.

The modems IP address is by default 192.168.0.1

I suggest you set your routers LAN IP to 192.168.1.1

However as long as the routers IP is not identical to your modem it should work normally.

Thanks,
Chris

I don't see 'use'. I am assuming you are talking about the Status Meter. Pressing Purchase Tokens brings me to a choice of buttons to buy tokens. I don't see a 'USE' button on the screen. Want to give me some better directions please? I'm a bit slow sometimes. It says I have 4.0 GB available. I can't get to them.
