Hughesnet SUCKS

Ok ,my own thread , slow over sold Hughes net,Gen5 sucks so every one is going back to gen4,I think that is why mine is so slow in the daytime.I never left gen4.They tried to get me to upgrade to gen5 that hour they had me on the phone.I am not going to gen5 with a new two year contract, when they cant even keep gen 4 running. And yes I have talked to tec support .about five diferent people. Here are nine Download speed test`s I ran on the hughes tester. 0.19,0.19,0.20,0.19,0.19,0.19,0.18,0.20,0.21 .I gave up ,then 1:30 am I get 29.66 . I did`nt do any thing to fix it.Tec support din`nt fix it. So here we are,3:55am.this is about the only time I can use it other than to check my e-mail , There is no use to call tec again. I know to unplug modem for a min or two ,checked modem to make sure every thing was tight,I even went out and looked at my dish .No bird nest or spider webs.I have herd the script they read so many times I know what to do.If this keeps up I will be moving to anywhere,  Do they still have dile up ?  Have a good night,I am going to bed

Speed Test
Last modified on
9/15/2016 12:36 PM

Introduction:

Hughes recommends the use of their own speed test which allows you to record your results. Also, this allows our Customer Care agents to see your results and assist in troubleshooting. We use an independent service hosted on the internet to take these measurements, and they measure your performance end to end from your PC over the satellite and across the internet. The test currently requires Java and can be accessed from your HughesNet account management page or at http://consumer.performancetests.hughesnet.com/.

If you would like to test using another third-party speed test, Hughes recommends http://testmy.net/. When using another speed test site, keep in mind that your satellite connection connects you to the internet where your gateway is located, not near your home. So, if you live in Alabama, your connection to the internet may actually come from your gateway in Utah. This may cause the speed test site to report your location as being far from your home and report that your speed is normal.

Here are the guidelines for running testmy.net speed tests and sharing your results with us:

  1. Navigate to www.testmy.net in your browser If you already have a testmy.net account, click Sign In. If you do not have an account click Create Account.
  2. Sign into your testmy.net account. After signing in, verify that your username shows in the upper-right corner.
  3. Click Download Test.
  4. Click Manual Test Size and select 12 MB from the drop-down menu.
  5. #4,    say 12 MB

I think the mods may have enough for a first look for now. Hang in there and save your data until they get back to you.

Reggie, I just clicked the quote button -- I don't know why it had the wrong URL.  I fixed it.

You need to stop now, until you hear from the Hughesnet mods.

Sheesh, isn't that wacky?  Because you fixed it I couldn't see what was wrong, but checking in my email I see it.  That it would go to something completely different like that is odd, to say the least.  I've seen strange things happen on this site over time, but that one has to take the cake.

It's Bizarro World, that's what it is!!!!  😛

You also are failing to follow the instructions you were given about how many tests to run per day and what file sizes to use .(file size to use as I see it Below is,12MB. down,)     Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-use the manual 12MB size download test file

-If testing upload instead of download, please use the manual 4MB size upload test file

Three things...

1.  If you decide to run more tests, or you are asked to do so by a rep, please continue to use the manual 12MB test size unless instructed otherwise by a rep or engineer.  The manual 25MB test size is for Gen5 subscribers, of which you are not, as indicated by your opening post.  The test size requested of those with Gen5 is larger than is requested of those with Gen4 because Gen5 is a higher speed service.  Again, unless instructed otherwise by a rep or engineer, please use the 12MB test size.  With this said, you have already performed plenty of tests, so you don't need to run more unless asked to do so.

2.  You don't need to keep posting your test results link.  The link is to a page that has all of the tests you have run and is kept up to date, so posting it every time you run a test is redundant.

3.  It's possible that the reps have not yet answered because of the title of the thread.  They may have assumed it is a rant thread rather than a thread asking for assistance.  I will tag a couple of reps so that they will be sure to see this thread and reply.  Because it is the weekend, it's likely that they won't reply until at least Monday.

Hi john12,

Thank you for creating a thread and running these tests. I've run diagnostics on your system and as far as signal and hardware goes, everything looks fine. A remote speed test from our network to your modem returns a download speed of 26 Mbps which is well over twice what your service plan actually calls for (10Mbps).

I realize this isn't what is reflected in some of your speed tests, so we need to do a bit more digging. Right now I can't see any devices that are connected to your HT1100 modem, so I will need you to tell me what device you use to run these tests and if you are using your own wireless router or connecting a singular computer to your modem. Outside of that, is it possible to get a couple more tests from the morning or earlier in the day? It helps to know if we should look at this as a traffic/congestion issue on the network as a whole, or something more local. I will apply some free Token data to your account for testing.

Thanks,

Amanda

Hp desk top computer to modem by ethernet cable.Thats all ,I think its,   traffic/congestion issue on the network as a whole. 2:00am to 7:00am  works great, That is the only time I have the data and speed to update my windows 10,or download music or go on u-tube. It would be nice if they would change there night times to start at 12:00 or 1:00am and go to 5:00 or 6:00am. It makes for a long night when you start updating win 10,at 2:00am and it`s a big update, like an hour and a half or two.But thats another story. I will get on a few test`s earlier. Thanks for the help and the Data Tokens,Amanda

john12: If you run speed test, you should be logged into Testmy. This way the Mods can just click on the link you posted earlier.

I was loged in, under user name , john Black

The mods can check on the original link any time -- you don't need to announce that you've run more tests.  Just run them as they asked, and they will be able to access them without your posting a link every time.
