If I cancel my hughesnet internet service

If I cancel my hughesnet internet service, can I still keep my email address to use on my cell phone. For example, xxxxx@hughes.net

No, once you cancel your Hughesnet service, your email account with Hughesnet will also be closed.  I suggest opening a new email account with Google and informing your contacts, as well as updating all your website logons to have that new email address prior to canceling your Hughesnet service.

Hello fcardillino,

Your HughesNet e-mail will automatically close 45 days after your account is closed. If you want to keep your contacts, you can use the export feature in the HughesNet webmail page to save a copy to import to a new e-mail account. Let me know if you need anything else or have any questions.

Thank you,

We never recommend having an Email address tied to any ISP for just this reason.

Before you cancel HughesNet service, get a new address so you don't lose all your contacts and Emails when you switch Internet Service Providers. There are a number of free Email service providers including Gmail, Yahoo.com, hotmail.com and outlook.com.

Here is the process for Gmail, but you can use a similar process for Yahoo, Hotmail or Outlook if you prefer. You may find that you have a better chance of getting the E mail address you want at Outlook since it's a newer service and has more Email addresses available. .

First, go to https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?service=mail and enter the information to create your new Gmail account

Once you have created an account and are logged in, follow these instructions and videos to import your mail and contacts:

A few things you will want to do.

In Your New Account:
Log into your new Gmail account and click on the General tab. Scroll down to Signature: and add a message that will be automatically added to all your sent messages. Put a notice in the Signature message that you will be changing your Email address soon, list your new Email address, and advise readers to change their address book to your new Email address. Then make sure the signature is enabled. Now, when you mail anyone from your new Email address, readers will see your notice with your new address below your message.

You may then want to send a message from your new account to all your contacts to let them know about your new Email address.

In Your Old Account:
Log into your old account and set up a "Vacation Message" or auto-responder. This is located in different areas depending on your Email provider. Put a notice in the Vacation Message that you will be changing your Email address soon, list your new Email address, and advise readers to change their address book to your new Email address. Then save the Vacation Message and make sure it's turned on. Now, when anyone mails your old Email address, they will receive an automatic reply with your Vacation message.

Log into your old account and setup a "Signature"message that will be automatically added to all your sent messages. This is located in different areas depending on your Email provider. Put a notice in the Signature message that you will be changing your Email address soon, list your new Email address, and advise readers to change their address book to your new Email address. Then make sure the signature is enabled. Now, when you mail anyone from your old Email address, readers will see your notice with your new address below your message.
