Re: Intermittent download speeds

Good morning tw,

Thank you for the speed test results. Different speed tests have varying ways to determine speeds; it's a complex system behind it, so we only accept our speed tests and testmy.net speed tests. If you're interested, you can read more about how the speed tests differ and can affect the results: https://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/which_speed_test_results_are_the_most_accurate_an...

For the tesymy.net testing, it would be best to create an account there so we can have single place to check all your results. Also, our engineers recommend using the 12MB test file size when running the speed tests to get the most accurate results.

Here's an illustrated guide on how to run the testmy.net tests according to our engineers' requests:
https://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/cant-use-the-hughesnet-speedtest-guide-for-testmy...

Your remote diagnostics do show your HughesNet equipment working just fine, so I want to get your case escalated. Once I have the testmy.net results to add, I can send it up for you. You should have a personalized results URL from testmy.net when you're done, it may look like http://testmy.net/quickstats/yourusername

I'll add some free tokens to your account for the data used to run the speed tests.

Thanks,
Liz

Thanks,
Liz

I now have an account @TMN

http://testmy.net/_7LFq9dTp.png

FYI, I'll be sending a history of the results in the future as well as screen shot of your site in the same time period. The timing of the tests taken on both sites will be within a minute of each other.

What would be the best frequency in running the tests?

In forwarding the results?

Re: Intermittent download speeds

tw,

Can you give us a link to the account history?  The link should look like http://testmy.net/quickstats/username and not http://testmy.net/_7LFq9dTp.png

As for frequency, engineering likes to have multiple tests through out the day, preferably a set of 5 in the morning, another 5 tests mid-day, and another 5 in the evening over the course of a few days.  They also like you to wait awhile between each test that is ran.

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Hi tw,

For escalated cases, since you said that your speeds tend to slow more in the afternoon/evenings, you can focus your testing around there. At least 3 testmy.net tests run at least 5 min spaced apart.

One more set from testmy.net should suffice for my report to the engineers.

Thank you again!

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Ok, now I'm a little lost...................I had 98% download allowance  as of last night, now I have zero?
First, I'm not smart enough to understand what a download  allowance is or how I use it up.
Second, put bonus bytes in that confusion as well.

I'm assuming the offer to "I'll add some free tokens to your account for the data used to run the speed tests" was meant to cover this situation.

I started to have problems with buffering so I ran speed tests and the results were bad. Was this do to slow speeds or because I ran out of download allowance?

Remember, I'm only 20 some days with Hughes.net and don't know the rules of the game yet

Respectfully.

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Good morning tw,

You have a monthly download allowance of 10 GB of Anytime Bytes and 50 GB of Bonus Bytes (usable between 2am - 8am your local time). If you exceed your data allowance, then yes, your speeds are reduced.

The tokens I sent you must be used/activated so that your speeds aren't reduced as a result of exceeding your data allowance (known as being subject to the Fair Access Policy/FAP).

Here are steps to use your tokens:

Visit supportcenter.myhughesnet.com.

Click on the Sign In tab:

If you've never registered before, click the Register button to get started, otherwise, sign in normally.

Once logged in, click on the Token Management link

Click on the Use link next to Token - Free

When you use tokens, this will not replenish your meter, but you will now see "Token Bytes available" underneath the meters with the amount of token bytes in MB you have left at your disposal. At this point, if you are in FAP, using the tokens will restore speeds.

Once you're out of FAP, you may run the speed tests so we can best evaluate your system performance under normal conditions.

Please let us know if you need additional assistance, we look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,
Liz

Thanks,
Liz
