Intermittent download speeds

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Correct.
Now sending that picture as an email, uploading to to FACEBOOK or someplace will use data.
However manipulating that photo on your computer or transfering it to another computer or device "on this side" of the modem will not.

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Well, I used my first two tokens (at the same time) yesterday evening to run speed tests. I was a little surprised when I started recording low speeds (<150kbps). I surmised that  because I started watching NETFLIX, I know.......not smart) I quickly used up the tokens.

Tonight, I used another token to run the tests and used it up again. This time no NETFLIX, no videos, nothing but running speed tests and scanning REALTOR.com and msn.com!? I know I'm still green but...........??

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Hi tw,

What soze token ? 500 MB ?

That still isn't very much data considering the way most webpages are structured these days with a lot scrolling ads and auto start video.

What operating system are you using ?

Re: Intermittent download speeds

1- yes, 500mb

2- since I'm getting 10'000 mb a month / x 30 = an allowance a 333.33 mb a day, so burning 100mb's in 2 hrs 14 min is, at least eye opening. The 2nd 500 lasted 3 1/2 hrs, better but.................

3-imac

Is it possible to suspend the high speed capabilities until wanted or needed? I believe I know the answer but asking anyhow.

Re: Intermittent download speeds

Ok......................by my own unofficial and uninformed test. I believe the router(NETGEAR N600 Wireless Dual Band Router Model WNDR3400v2) is slowing my downloads by 75-80%. Is there a router(s) that are or should be used to allow me to achieve the same speeds when I'm hardwired to the modem?

First what firmware? Here is latest official: https://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/WNDR3400v2

There is also unofficial WRT firmware here:  http://burnmytime.com/new-dd-wrt-firmware-netgear-wndr3400v2-heartbleed-fix/

Re: Intermittent download speeds

You will always lose speed and quality of connection when over wireless. Wired is always better. You could always use MoCA to get internet to every room. Its what i use, it takes a bit of set up. But is so worth it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimedia_over_Coax_Alliance

I use the MI424WR-rev I for my MoCA Network.

Otherwise I would recommend getting a gigabit router. You can get some decent speeds if you get a good wifi card in your laptop too. It may not be the router. Also, how did you come to that conclusion, what test did you run? Just curious.
