Please post the URL to your Testmy.net "my results" page.  This is what the techs need to address your issues.

"i pay for 50 gigs a month and rarely get more than 2-5 Mbps"

The gig package a user pays for does not impact speed negatively or positively. All the data packages are designed to provide 25 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up, but many factors may influence the experience, as both the website and the subscriber agreement state. Speed and performance are not guaranteed.

@McKraftywino

The following are the intructions for speed testing.  Please be sure to read them thoroughly before running the tests, and then run them as instructed.  Then post your 'My Results' page URL so your test results page can be viewed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To help the HughesNet Customer Service Reps get a head start on your speed concerns, please create a testmy.net account (if you do not already have one) and, while signed into that account, perform a batch of 3-5 tests during different parts of the day, then share your testmy.net "My Results" page URL with us here. A batch each in the morning, afternoon and evening is the most ideal, but the reps are well aware that not everyone can do this, so please just run a batch when you can.

Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-disable the WiFi in the HT2000W modem while the speed tests are being performed
-the testing device should be the ONLY device connected to the HughesNet modem while testing
-use the manual 25MB size download test file
-if testing upload instead of download, use the manual 4MB size upload test file
-space each test in the batch at least 5 minutes apart
-post your testmy results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/yourusername

For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please see this site.

The Reps are on M-F from approximately 9AM to 6PM EST. They will be the ones to address your speed issues, but they will need these tests to do so.

If you don't know how to disable the WiFi in the HT2000W modem, please see "How do I manage my built-in WiFi modem?" in this PDF. Please be sure to click "Save Settings" after unchecking "SSID Enable" for each of the four tabs individually (2.4Ghz, then 2.4Ghz Guest, then 5Ghz, then 5Ghz Guest).

i'm sorry

i expect you think i'm a neophyte

i'm not

so your response is simply a delay and obfuscate

doign it on speedtest whereas it's now the 'gold standard' of your speed test

but it's quick

easy

and demonstrates WILD fluctations in the speed

i can do this with the testmy.net account

and have

but it's clumsy

and not easy to get REALATIVE speed tests over time

UNLESS
they have improved it

but

BOTTOM LINE

i can NOT stream because things fluctuate so badly with no reason except you've overcrowded the bandwidth

i sent that with the GPS location and you could have responded with

'our tests in that area show...'

for speeds

and i know it will show SLOW speeds

please provide this thread with the speed at somewhere near the GPS location

you should be testing and posting hour by hour speed tests for locations

Like Raleigh NC??

what type DO YOU or your REPS in the area get?

otherwise this is a silly 'stupid pet trick' attempt to obfuscate and delay my realizing you have slow and extremely fluctuating speeds due to overcrowded bandwidths

or due to what?

why is my wifi whether direct on the modem to computer

OR

on latest mesh wifi

slow and extremely fluctating in the area?

thank you

B

It's unfortunate you feel that way, as providing the Testmy.net link to your results page is a necessary step to move forward.

The only way you will get help here for your speed issues is to follow the speed testing protocol.  The protocol is the way it is for a reason, and contrary to your belief, it is not to delay and waste your time.

If you would rather not run the tests as requested, you have the option of contacting support over the phone at 866-347-3292, or contacting support via social media.  To get help here, however, test results from those run as instructed are required.

lets get somethign straight

i only use hughesnet on weekends

and my girlfriend has to deal with it all week

it is useless

and the phone app is useless

and the online website is useless

since

why when you ask about speed is NOTHING written about testmy.net

or any direct link?

why not have that a part of the online web and/or the iphone app?

to be able to click on a lionk that runs a hughesnet sanctioned speed test

and to be able to have it run every 15 or 30 minutes throughout the day so I

and hughesnet

can get an idea of the performance at my GPS location

which is horrible

Hughesnet needs to ramp up their response to speed issues and make it easier to log and issue speed reports

as it is

because i won't be there till the weekend you've suceeded in a non-response until i do the 'stupid pet tricks' and respond whereupon no doubt there will be many more 'suptid pet trick' instead of adding to the app and website an easy way to run speedtests

To have speed issues addressed in this community, you need to use the protocol required in this community. You have other choices, such as chat and phone reps, and they may be fine with other protocols. If you are unwilling to do what it takes to get help here, that's fine and it's your choice, and it will be respected,  but you will not get anything done here without following what the site requires.

GabeU

@McKraftywino

What's useless is actually taking the time to compose a post full of ludicrous claims and your reasons why you shouldn't have to run the tests.  Whether you agree with or understand the reasons the tests are required to be run, or the manner in which they're required to be run, is irrelevant.

You have a choice to make.

1.  Run the tests as required to get help here.

2.  Contact HughesNet support elsewhere and do whatever it is they require to get help from them.

3.  Don't get help.

And a word of advice, if you do end up deciding to get help here, make sure to read those testing instructions thoroughly.  If the tests aren't run as instructed the results will be of no use to the reps, and you'll end up having to run them again to get it.

i re-wrote since this dissapeared and they have no delete function

see below

So i make 'ludicrous claims'

please enumerate them?

you obviously are a 'hammer looking for a nail' (see NY Time Op-ed on scoial media from a week or so ago...great piece!)

HERE'S MY LUDICROUS PROBLEM...

WHY is the burden of proof on speed issues PUT ON the client?

Why can't clients simply ask hughesnet investigate it? (if they automated the raw testing it would be simple)

Through the app or website the cleint gives them the SITE ID/DSS/etc

and then they could easily run tests and report back to the cleint what raw speeds they are able to send/recieve to/from my site?

instead of 'ludicrous' instructions wherein one has to

"read those testing instructions thoroughly. If the tests aren't run as instructed the results will be of no use to the reps, and you'll end up having to run them again"

WHY?

why not have the tests run by hughesnet by request and if my speed has no issue, then it is in the wiring or the wifi or something else

instead the burden is places on thousands of cleints instead of a simple link added to the website or application that submists a test request and an automated test is run to determine the raw speed that is achieved at the SITE ID and GPS location for the SITE?

is that too much too ask?

on additional MAJOR issue

email is sketchy at the site

and internet is sketchy

that is how slow it is

useless

so to even follow instructions and do all the stupid things i have to print them elsewhere and then what?

see the issue?

HUGHESNET ALLOW FOLKS TO REPORT SPEED ISSUES AND INVESTIGATE

CREATE AN AUTOMATIC TEST THAT DETERMINES THE SPEED AND IF SLOW, HUGHESNET SCHEDULE TO FIX IT

IF NOT SLOW, REPORT THE SPEED TO THE CLIENT AND THEY CAN DETEMINE WHATS CAUSING THE SLOWDOWN FROM THE RECEIVER/SATELLITE TO THE HOUSE/WIFI/TV

maratsade
Distinguished Professor IV

"why not have the tests run by hughesnet by request and if my speed has no issue, then it is in the wiring or the wifi or something else"

The tests they can run show the speed delivered from the satellite. The tests you run show the speed on your side of the equation.  They can't run tests from your computer; you have to run them.

@McKraftywino wrote:

Because the problem is with YOUR service, at YOUR location.

Whether you get help is up to you.  The choice is yours.

I can just imagine what it would be like if I took my car to the mechanic for an issue, he asked me to demonstrate the issue in order to start the troubleshooting process, and I decided to go off on him with various insults and accusations.  I'm sure that would go well.

again you say 'various insults and accuesations'

once again you're a hammer lookign for a nail

so lets get this straight...

at my other location i have at&t fiber

when i have a speed issue i use the chat function on their website, they run tests

and in the instance with the problem they sent out a tech

in another instance they made changes at the controller

in neither instance was i told to stand on my head and redo separate speed tests (as if the client must be wrong to be saying there is a speed issue?!!)

so there are solutions which hughesnet could implement

but they don't

but carry on with the 'stupid pet tricks' and then no doubt i'll have to call them and be on the phone for hours

no doubt

i had them before

cancelled them

its been years

thought theyd clean up their act

but no

same slow show

And you can call 866-347-3292 if you'd rather use that method of receiving help for your speed issues.

did the stupid pet tricks

and did discover one item for wifi: DO NOT USE 5G!!

the modem from hughesnet comes with 5G and that does not work (1-2 Mbps MAX)

whereas 4G jumps around bt can get up to 20-30

had some login issues with TestMy.net

so had to reset things and then it wouldn't let me back in

so two separate tests but same parameters and they demonstrate the wild variations in speeds

All tests done per your list particulalry with wifi OFF/disconnected

The first link on Saturday things went fine however large fluctuations during testing

Then on Sunday at 6 PM demonstrated the normal response

I expect more crowding the bandwidth and so the performance goes down, down, down

zip code is 27614

saw myspeed.net has ability to compare by zip and by provider

how do these compare for my zip?

any explanation?

Good morning McKraftywino,

Thank you for providing the testmy.net speed tests. I checked your diagnostics too and they look normal, and the speed I got lined up with some of your test results as well (~13 Mbps). Let me escalate this to our corporate engineers for their input. I'll post back once I have an update for you.

Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Liz
