Latency and Teamspeak II

Following up on this topic from https://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/latency-and-teamspeak?rfm=1&topic_submit=true

Been testing it over the last couple weeks. Didn't know the thread would be locked.

Anyway, you said that your engineers did some "tweeks" to my site.  I have noticed that, after I stop talking on Teamspeak, the latency drops back down faster.

However, I am still experiencing very high latency when I talk (or transmit data).

Last night I hit 5000 ms latency.

So there still is a problem.

Oh, I found the gateway test.

Hi Lighthope,

We haven't forgot about you. Our engineers and all of our NOC has been busy more than usual this season. So, it's been hard to get consistent feedback. Especially with the new Satellite launch as well. For any inconvenience, I will be adding a service credit to your account. I should have something for you some time this week. An update hopefully. I'll get back to you once I do have more info.

Thanks,
Chris

I know it's Christmas, but here is my Gateway test for today:

Packet Loss:
0.00% Average Delay: 2312.00 ms
Minimum Delay: 560.00 ms
Maximum Delay: 3890.00 ms
IP Gateway: RAP43HNSIGW72B002Adv

Outrageous, huh?

Web response test:

Server Selected: Chicago
Ping Time: 6610 ms
Download Time 2.4 seconds

Speed test:

Server Selected: Chicago
Ping Time: 3854 ms
Download: 28.22

Upload seems a bit slow, doesn't it?

Hi Lighthope,

Unfortunately no new info to share. Although I will press on.

I reported this problem more than three months ago (two months for this thread alone) and still nothing?

Glad to see my problem is such a high priority for Hughesnet.

As noted above, there is an issue with the Gateway as there is very high latency to it.

I'd report this to the BBB, but they are useless and you're a monopoly in my area, so I guess I just have to suck it up and live with it.  Too bad for me, huh?  Where else am I going to go?

Another two Gateway tests

Packet Loss: 30.00%
Average Delay: 6231.43 ms
Minimum Delay: 5020.00 ms
Maximum Delay: 6600.00 ms IP

Gateway: RAP43HNSIGW72C001Adv

Packet Loss: 0.00%
Average Delay: 4249.00 ms
Minimum Delay: 2880.00 ms
Maximum Delay: 5910.00 ms
IP Gateway: RAP43HNSIGW72C001Adv

The packet loss above seems an anomaly.  But SIX SECOND DELAY getting to the gateway
C0RR0SIVE

That's modem diagnostics... Something is certainly, terribly, wrong... 30% packet loss on one test with an average delay of 6k? dafuq? That's worse than Spaceway3, and lighthope is on Jupiter...?

My problem doesn't seem to be of real interest to them.
C0RR0SIVE

It's of interest to me though...  You should have numbers closer to what's displayed below...  Though, I am on a totally different gateway than you, there's just no way a Jupiter user could be getting latency from modem diagnostics that's that horrible...  I mean, that's from the terminal, to the gateway it self isn't it?  What do your tracert results to the likes of google.com look like? Care to SS and share that?

Here is a tracert to 8.8.8.8, which is supposedly a good address to use when testing google.com

For fairness, here is one to google.com, whatever that translated to.

Here is the gateway test when I ran this, so you can see what the current state is.  Obviously, more problems with the gateway would result in higher times for the tracert

Packet Loss: 0.00%
Average Delay: 919.00 ms
Minimum Delay: 610.00 ms
Maximum Delay: 1290.00 ms

This is an unusually good run.  Give it about 20 minutes and let's see if it changes.
C0RR0SIVE

To be honest, that run there looked rather normal.  Was there by chance anything being uploaded during the runs you did earlier?  I have noted in the past I get increases in latency when performing uploads on facebook, strangely, it only happens when I do so on facebook... lol
lighthope1

During all tests, I make sure that nothing else is running.  There may have been something during the 30% packet loss run, which is why I retested it.

TBH, those numbers almost look normal for satellite, 1300ms avg is semi-normal depending on infrastructure load (you may be on a heavily congested beam).  You are certainly getting lower latency in tracerts to outside of the infrastructure most of the time in those rounds...  I suspect the 6k lag spike could have been some form of issue at the gateway, it happens.

Hi Lighthope,

Are you by any chance hosting a Teamspeak server?

No I am not.  i do not host anything.
