Perpetual modem update...

Let me preface this by saying that the following doesn't appear to be causing me any issues, or at least none that I notice, so please feel free to treat it as low priority.  .

Starting Saturday night, after I had a couple hours of intermittent connection issues, I noticed that my modem software update was taking a long time.  I checked it throughout the evening, and even after three or four hours it was still showing the same thing.  It was the same yesterday, and it's the same today.

I checked the modem diagnostics and nothing seems to be amiss.  With this said, what concerns me is that it's definitely not normal.

Wordpress usually touches a .maintenance file and deletes it when any updates are done. The file signals that the system should revert to a maintenance message and the user should try back in a minute. There have been several instances where I knew the update was done, but the file wasn't deleted, forcing me to ftp in and delete it manually to get the site back.

Just wondering if there's something similar going on here. On my system, I know the DNS doesn't work right until the software update is done. If you've got DNS but are still showing it's updating, maybe there's a dot-file stuck in place on the modem that needs binning (note: I don't think you can do this yourself).

I was using Google's, but I switched back to HN's DNS just to check (I flushed the cache), and it seems to be working without issue.  I tried a few different sites and they all loaded normally.

Reps,

Though I normally don't do so when I'm not online, I'm leaving my modem on in case you want to take a look.

I should be back on later this afternoon.  🙂

Hi Gabe,

Thanks for coming back online. I just ran diagnostics on your site, nothing out of the ordinary is sticking out. Please check the PM I sent you recently regarding your concerns.

Liz,

That's good.  I read the PM and I'll keep my eye on it.

Thank you.  🙂

@Liz

It's still the same.  I left the modem on all night, then power cycled it about a half hour ago, just in case any changes necessitated a reboot.

It's still not affecting anything that I've seen, though.  🙂

Hmm ok, that's good at least. If the intermittent connectivity returns, see if you can catch the state code in the downtime and let me know, please.

I'm just noting others that are having this same problem, only because I've never seen it here before, or at least not that I remember.

Woo hoo.  It finally finished.  It only took a little over a month.  That's one heck of a download!!!  😛

And it actually did update the software...

See? It wasn't fibbing, it was actually updating itself. 😉
