Sad to know you BEG for help for months & nothing gets done, EXCEPT DATA DISAPPEARS

New customer since September, 2 weeks in already having problems have made well over 20 calls asking for help, begging for help, pleading for help. 2 adult household, both have cell phones with unlimited data so rarely connect to WiFi, all other devices kept in airplane mode unless being used, all devices updates set for bonus times, when we watch Netflix or stream movies video is set to lowest quality, don’t download, don’t play games, no PlayStation, no wii, no xbox, no tablets, just 2 laptops used every now & then for watching movies or look on internet for something quick. But somehow HughesNet is claiming we use 120 GB of data a month. Started out with a 20GB $50 plan, upgraded to 30GB $100 plan every month our data is completely out 5-6 days into month & we have to start buying data tokens. We are spending almost $300/month. Last month they claimed we used our 30GB, 50GB Bonus, & 50GB Data Tokens...THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NO WAY POSSIBLE

That sounds like a giant mess.  Luckily for you, the Hughesnet reps on the site are always very willing to help.  They will need some sleuthing and troubleshooting on your part, though, before they can help you.  Please follow the directions outlined on this post:   https://community.hughesnet.com/t5/Tech-Support/Where-s-my-bytes-Testing-for-data-leaks/m-p/77194#M5...

We also have all kinds of tech savvy users on the site, and they may also chime in to offer help and tips.

Are you purchasing the data tokens?  Data tokens are not automatically purchased.  If you see data tokens on your account that you or the other person in your household did not actively purchase, you've got an even bigger problem, as somebody may be using your service without you knowing it.

A couple of suggestions.  You can go here to see what is currently connected, and what has been connected, but then disconnected, to your modem since the last time the modem was powered up.  This info can be valuable in determining if something is connecting that you aren't aware of, as anything that connects can use data.

Next, you mentioned two laptops.  If they are Windows laptops, I recommend downloading and installing Glasswire.  It's a free program that monitors every single bit of data that enters and exits your laptop, and it can tell you just what app/program/process is using the data.  This will help in knowing how much data each laptop is using, and what's using it.  Many people with data restrictive internet plans use Glasswire.  Many of the community regulars, like myself, as well.

If you do download and install it, make sure to set the options to "Incoming & Outgoing" and "External".  The default is  "External & Local", but you don't want Local traffic, or going back and forth within your computer, being counted.  Also, it only monitors the data of the computer it's installed on, so it would need to be installed on both of them.

Lastly, though you didn't mentioned it, if you have a satellite TV receiver connected to HughesNet, disconnect it, as they can use a ton of data, and for things other than just On Demand program viewing.
