Slow Gen5 download speed

I have been trying since 9/22 to get my speeds above 12.I have been told it is everything from a virus in my PC to it's because my PC is a Dell and it won't work with HughesNet.I spent 3 hours with my virus protection company who found NO virus. I called Dell and they said the make of the PC has nothing to do with the speeds or connection and they said my PC isn't configured correctly to the internet provider and that was not for them to fix, Hughes has to fix that but they won't. What am I to do ?? HELP!

Error 520 Ray ID: 46a36e7858af5efb • 2018-10-15 15:49:13 UTC Web server is returning an unknown error

That's understandable, I see a previous agent has already provided you tokens for the previous tests you ran. I've just sent you an additional free token for another batch of tests. If you're seeing that error 520 message, try again later as something on that website is erroring out. We're not affiliated with testmy.net so I can't tell you what/why exactly that 502 error is popping up.

After the tech left your site, you initially stated that performance was better. What were you attempting to do online that changed your opinion and prompted you to run more speed tests?

@Liz

Rightly so. That's apparently a code error at CloudFlare, which serves as TestMy's Content Delivery Network.

I've had a few connection issues with testmy.net over the last week or so, though the last few days have been okay.  It would work, then it would freeze during a test.  I would close the page and try to go back to the site and it would give me an error.  It would keep doing so for ten minutes or so, then I could get back on.  I had this happen four or five times.

CloudFlare is having it's issues. I'm seeing other weird things on my site as well as the one I administer, both of which are also behind their CDN. Well, that AND a recent Jetpack update likely causing posts not to schedule properly on Wordpress. #NotHavingFun

The Tech. just left. The modem and raido were both bad. He replaced them.

I wonder if there had been some type of unnoticed/unseen power surge or brownout.  Whatever the case, I'm glad they were able to find the issue(s) and replace the bad equipment.  🙂

Two other things to consider:

  • The weather in your area and/or in the area where your gateway is located (which is always in another state) may interfere with the service.
  • Congestion due to lots of people using the allotted broadband can cause speed reductions.
