Speed drop

Speed drop in the last month.  1100 modem, beam 34.  Speeds have dropped from 5 digits download to as low a 1 meg.  Haven't seen decent download or upload speeds in over a month.  It used to be great.  All diagnostics on the modem check OK.  Signal strength is always the same.

I am with you on this one. My speed have jumped off a cliff as well.

Result show good speeds previously. Not so good now with no computer or router changes.

Ricky, yours appears to just be today and may be transient, pbparker is saying his has been bad for over a month. Not sure his and yours are related.

Mine have been bad for a while now. My stats just show today. However they have been bad for a while.

BirdDog, you know I am not into fly by night results.

The stats show back to June 03, the ones in your stats don't look bad that far back. Maybe do some at different times of day.

June 29th shows a 30.35 Mbps.

Upload tests need to be either 1.5 or 2 MB in size.

If it's across the board it may be general oversell/overload.
I have the Ultra plan but I see it's no longer offered at my nearby address location.

Still, once documented, the Engineers may be able to sprinkle some Magic Dust or swap/add servers. Whatever the root cause is ... and that takes troubleshooting as well as persistence.

Hello pbparker,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community! I'm sorry to hear of your experience. First off can you tell me what website you are using to run tests? I see a few ran on our website with these results:

Just not sure if you your using others as well. These are certainly low for your plan, however if you don't mind heading over to www.testmy.net and also running some that would be great. Run a batch of tests throughout the day. Some morning, afternoon, and night. Use 12 MB manual test size for download and 2 MB manual test size for upload tests. I'll be adding token bandwidth to your account to make up for the data that will be used. Also one computer connected via Ethernet is key as well.

I do not see anything reported recently about your Beam or Gateway. However I am noticing other defining factors in the diagnostics I have run today. In conjunction with your speed test results(if they continue to be low) we can definitely make a case for our engineers to take a look. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks.

Again, what Ricky's stats show aren't that bad except for a few today. Only saying he needs to run some at different times of the day.

Some results are significantly higher than "up to" speed.

Hello pbparker,

Thanks for posting some of your other results. Please still run the tests on www.testmy.net. It is the official third party source correctly configured to gauge our satellite speeds. It is also the only third party site recognized by our engineers. So I will add those that you've posted. However just to save some time because I know they will ask for it. Please do still run them there as well and post the results. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Thank you,
Chris

Here's the web site I always use for speed tests;

http://consumer.performancetests.hughesnet.com/

I ran the tests on your suggested site and came up with worse download results.

Then they should be able to see those on their end.

Hi,

Yes that is the screen shot I included in my first post. As stated before, please run a series of tests. A batch of tests at different times during the day if at all possible. I've already added token bandwidth.

Thanks,
Chris

pbparker,

It would be best for you to create an account at testmy.net and do the tests under that account.  The reason for this is that it will save the tests you run and can show a pattern over time that can be very helpful in determining speed problems.  The way you ran your most recent five tests in the picture above is perfect, using the manual 12MB test size.  You would just do the same under the account you created.

Then, after having run some tests like Chris outlined, but under the account you created there, you can paste the "Results" URL (when signed in you click on "Results" and just copy and paste the URL into a post on here), which will allow the reps to look at all of the tests, including individual aspects of each test on their own.  With doing this, you won't have to post pictures or post links to each individual test.  It will all be saved in one place, making it easier for the reps to see and help.

Plus, it makes it easier for YOU to see your recent and past tests, as well.

Good luck.

pbparker,

Have you run any tests under that account yet (you may not have yet)?  It's not showing any tests.

When you click on the Results tab toward the top right of the page, it will take you to the results of the tests you've run under that account.  The URL of that page is the one to copy and paste.  I'll post mine so you can see what I mean, and your URL will look the same, but with your name instead of mine (Gabe1972) at the end of it.

It will look like this...

Trying again. I may not have been signed in to my account on "testmy".

I did several test at 1700 EST  with the same results.  I';ll try to retrieve these tests.

pbparker,

Good.  I see four tests, two of each, starting at 8:41PM.  You are using the right sizes, too.  That's good.  And, although we are in a peak usage time period, those speeds definitely look quite low.  If you are able, it's best to run the tests at various times of the day to see if there are any differences.  Also, again if you can, when you do a batch of tests, it's best to run at least three, and space them at least five minutes apart.  Then, as stated, try to do a batch at different times of the day, if you are able.

Also, in case you didn't see above (there are a lot of posts so sometimes things can be missed), it is best to be directly connected to the modem, without the router being used, especially when trying to diagnose a low speed problem.  Sometimes routers can cause problems, so it's best to eliminate them when doing speed test.

If you can, try to get a few more tests in, maybe a little later and some tomorrow.  You obviously can't do them while working, and nobody would expect you to.  Plus, you have to go to bed sometime.  LOL.  Just try to do a few here and there.  That will give a good idea of your average speeds and the higher and lower speeds can help in determining what's causing it.

Hopefully they will be able to determine what's going on quickly and have you where you should be.
