First, please ensure that you are not currently out of your plan data.

If you do have plan data, the reps will need a few speed tests to be run, but they need to be run in a certain way.  The instructions for the testing are here.  Please be sure to read them thoroughly before running the test and follow the directions.  If you run any upload tests, there is a discrepancy between the main page instructions and the "in depth guide".  You can use the 3MB file size for upload tests.

The reps are on M-F from approximately 9AM to 6PM EST.  They usually reply within a day, but right now they are very busy, so it may take them a little longer than it normally would.

Regarding the location, HughesNet uses shared, dynamically changing IP addresses for their subscribers, so sites that glean your location from your IP address almost always show an incorrect one.

Hello mcwilliamscarri,

I see it's your first post here, so welcome to the community! After reviewing your account it appears the monthly data usage has been exceeded, which will result in slower speeds until your next refresh date. Please visit http://hninfo.us/FApolicyGen5 for more information regarding our data usage policy.

Thanks,

Liz

I started services with Hughes Net Saturday before last, so March 21st. We live in the country, and understand having not many chocies for internet in our area. I seen Hughes Net advertised on facbook, and decided to give it a try. I have no complaints about the speed, but I do about loading or downloads. A few times I have been unable to download software on my computer, because of the speed??? lol IDK. My two children have Nintendo 64s,and both have trouble downloading a game (fortnite), as well as other games, learning apps. I understand speeds, or loading are probably due to the pandemic and my issue is not that BIG. Just curious if there is anything that can be done about constant delay/breakage in video, or downloads? THANKS 🙂

In order to get your issues addressed, please start a new topic under Tech Support. To do so, click on Start a topic.  You can copy your entry here and paste it there. Each topic is like a ticket, and the reps on this site prefer to deal with each issue individually.

With there being considerable strain on the system, HughesNet has prioritized educational and business software and traffic, so other things end up taking a back seat.  It also wouldn't be surprising to find that they've "de-prioritized" general streaming and gaming related traffic, though I don't know that they've actually done this and it's just speculation on my part.

One other thing is that, as is often seen, downloads tend to take longer from some servers when there are periods of high congestion, which is happening a lot more often right now, even if the overall speed of the service is decent.  I believe it's due to a combination of that congestion and the higher latency inherent to satellite internet.
