Speeds are too slow- Help!

Upload/Download speeds are soooo slow. I called and was blown off. I tried to play with router settings but no help. Can someone give me an honest opinion and hope for speeds that make this 80 dollars a month just a little bit worth it all. I need to work from home and I cant with these numbers. I don't need tokens and I haven't used barely any of my monthly allotment.

Hi suebee68,

Looking at your recent tests run today, the speeds look fine. They fluctuated a bit but that is normal on a satellite connection. Are you maybe instead running out of data allowance when you experience slow service?

Nope. Still have 89%. Can't even stream a video or go on work network

suebee68, when you say "work network" do you use a VPN service? If so, that could be the root of your problem with extreme slowdown. Another customer here wasn't aware their connection was being channeled through a VPN service and when she disabled it everything worked fine.

I have to go thru Vpn to get. Thru to my work server. But I don't have to use Vpn to use Internet and send emails and I still can't stream video or see half the web pages I go on or send email in under 4 minutes ( attachments or not)

When VPN is being used your connection speeds can be expected to drop by 50 to 70%

Some of those VPN services lock onto your connection and you end up going through it even when doing normal things. All depends how it is configured, so many variables. 

Does your browser show any kind of VPN plugin? 

Does your work connection use a VPN service provider or is it a direct VPN connection to work?

It's a separate program that I can sign in and sign out of to get on work server. It's only on my work computer. I know it's slow accessing work server But when disconnected or on personal computer there is no vpn. Still can't stream Only at 125 for signal strength with no trees around. What should strength be ? 175 or more?

Hi Suebee,

Question, when you are using your personal computer and experience a slow down. Are you connecting through WiFi? Are you unable to stream when directly connected to the modem? Based off of your diagnostics, I am not seeing anything yet, out of the ordinary. However I think some more tests will need to be done to confirm this.

Hi Suebee,

Your speed tests are exactly in range. They will fluctuate, however as long as they do not stay low for an extended period, you should be fine. With those speeds, you should be able to stream at some of the higher end settings. Although to conserve data, standard or lower is best. Have you noticed a difference since seeing these speeds. Didn't see you mention trying to stream while directly connected to the modem.

Anything in the 13-20+ Mbps range is very good IMO. Plus that first page of tests is one right after the other during peak time. Is suggested to at least space them out a bit. My results are wonky if I do one test right after the other.

Also, to conserve data, run 15 MB manual tests as if speed is really good the 12 MB test will often bump up to a ridiculously high test amount.
