Usage!!!

Non English speaking customer service told me I'm over my usage. I have had Netflix for 4 days and still can't watch a movie. Tell me I'm over my limit but usage is when NOBODY is home!!! And it is everyday!!!

Re: Usage!!!

Hi Travis,

Welcome to the community and thank you for your post, we want to address your concerns. Please post a case number or the serial number located on the bottom of your modem so we may look up your account.

We'll have to troubleshoot to get an idea of where the data usage is originating, to get started, follow the steps below:

Please take care in cropping out your SAN while taking the screenshots.

Keep in mind there are countless factors that can use your data:

- more devices are capable of connecting to the internet: phones, tablets, gaming consoles, SmartTVs, and even refrigerators can connect wirelessly to the internet. Keep track of what devices you leave running on Wi-Fi.

- automatic-updates: your computer and any other programs you use will often keep working in the background, even if you're not actively using that program, in order to keep your system/program up-to-date. Anti-virus programs will periodically use your internet connection to check back with their malware database for any updates. You should have an option to turn off auto-updates and/or schedule them for a later time.

- multimedia content: Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, news sites, and other websites will contain videos, animated gifs, and sound clips that may start playing as soon as you land on the site. So much content, so easily available almost everywhere on the internet. For starters, try disabling auto-play video on Facebook:

or adjusting your Netflix playback quality to SD:

- more data sources can be found here, as posted by a fellow community member: https://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/data-usage-sources-common-and-not-so-common

To help you monitor your data usage and other performance metrics, we’ve gathered resources for you here, which also includes community
recommendations: http://community.myhughesnet.com/hughesnet/topics/track_your_usage_performance_speeds_and_view_tips_....

The most important tool to download is the Status Meter, available in the Customer Support Center, so download that if you haven’t already:

Your cooperation and patience are greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks,
Liz

Thanks,
Liz

Re: Usage!!!

Hey Travis

Welcome to the club this unexplained usage has been ongoing for quite a while.  However I do see you got the standard form answer it use to be worse.  If you use HD graphics it will eat you up  I use NVIDIA HDMI on my PC and even a short video gobbles up a bunch.  Only thing I don't understand is with my former provider ATT 3g I had less data and never ran out.  A few mornings ago I downloaded 1.5gb at 4 AM (Bonus Time) and it looks like it was taken from my anytime as I am almost out of anytime Data 29% left and have 86% of the Bonus available only 635mb used.  I have given up speaking to deaf ears and am ready to tell Hughesnet to take a hike and I dare them to throw up some stupid contract stuff as they are cheats.

Re: Usage!!!

Hey Liz

I have been diagnosed with cancer and will be going through surgery so I can't waist time waiting for the next screw up from HughesNet.  It is kinda like you never know when it will happen, works fine for a month or so then suddenly, kaput, all data used up, or darn near then all is OK for awhile.  I use Windows very little, most of the time I use Linux.  When I do use Windows that is when things get screwed up.

I do appreciate the help I have gotten and the over usage has got better, however, what I have this month is, downloading during bonus and losing anytime data a totally different problem.

When I used a wireless modem I would watch shows like Star Trek all the time. Now I don't dare watch them, and I have 1gb more data now, then I had then, and I never ran out.

I have expenses now that I didn't count on, when I signed up, and can't afford to upgrade my plan.  You have been an Angel and have tried hard to help.  It seems like the higher ups aren't taking any of this seriously as the complaints keep on coming from everywhere with no results.

Keep up the good work Liz
