When does the "up to 15 mbps" kick in?

I just got service. Yeah, I'm paying for speeds up to 15 mbps... but what they don't tell you is that's just how fast it COULD move. It doesn't actually reach anything NEAR that spped. I've done a number of tests this evening, and I am averaging less than 1 mbps down, and .1 up. WTF?

Hello grrhine,

Welcome to our community and thank you for your post. We're very sorry that you have been experiencing poor speeds and would like the opportunity to help you find out what's going on. We should be able to find you by the e-mail you signed up with and run initial diagnostics. In the meantime, can you let us know what website you are using to run speed tests? We preferably like to use the HughesNet test from http://supportcenter.myhughesnet.com or http://testmy.net as they are both capable of testing satellite internet speeds.

Thank you

Hi grrhine,

It kicks in for a majority of our customers see here:

We really hope that you run some speed tests for us to evaluate. I am sure we can assist and resolve all your concerns. We hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you,
Chris

when I had another satellite service, mine was slow btecause the installer didn't take the time to align the dish properly. check your signal strength by typing 192.168.0.1. Click system status, and look where it says "WAN" info.  and Satellite Receive Signal Strength. should be well over 100. If not, call tech support and they should fix it.

grrhine,

In order to receive some help for the problem, you will need to run some speed tests, if you haven't already.  Testmy.net is the only other speed test, besides Hughesnet's own, that is accepted by Hughesnet.   Here's a guide for how to use testmy.net for the tests.

Beside what has already been said you could be in throttled mode (over allowance FAP).

Green boxes at top of page here?  http://192.168.0.1/
