Re: problem with iPad messaging over Hughes.net, not other networks

Good morning rlopp,

Welcome and thanks for posting. As our engineers continue to address this iMessage concern, please try this workaround in the meantime which should allow iMessage to work again.

Please change the DNS settings on your iDevice to a use a different DNS server such as Google's (8.8.8.8). Here are instructions on how to do so:

Please let me know if you have additional concerns.

Thanks,
Liz

Re: problem with iPad messaging over Hughes.net, not other networks

I am in Virginia and have been having the same issue.  I called Hughesnet and spent an hour with them on the phone checking my system.  They saw nothing wrong.  So I replaced the router thinking it might help.  It didn't.  Called Hughesnet again and they sent a tech at my expense of $125.  He spent an hour here and when he left the messaging was working....for about 10 minutes.  I'm relieved to now know it is a Hughesnet issue and not something in my house.  I would have thought the people on the phones would know that and let us know before we spend money on new routers, or service calls.  Not happy about that.

The temp fix has been posted here for about a week now. No idea why phone reps haven't been briefed on the workaround though.

Re: problem with iPad messaging over Hughes.net, not other networks

Hi Liz.

I'm not sure that would work since my husband has an HP laptop and a Samsung cell phone, and this situation is affecting him as well.  He can't send or receive texts on his laptop.

Thanks,
June

Hi shniggy,

iMessage and SMS are not the same thing. SMS aka text does not work over HN, they require a cellular connection where as iMessage does not.

Hi June,

Thanks for posting. As Don noted iMessage and SMS texts are different. Found some informative threads online regarding texting over WiFi. Your options vary among the cellular carriers.
