Had to use Mint on Saturday to scan some documents as my scanner hasn't had a usable Windows driver since  Vista.  Worked perfectly with Mint 18.1, which is on the same desktop that has W10 (the one I'm on now).   Have 17.1 on my original home build (from 2005).  It works perfectly on that, too, though I had to use the 32 bit version as the MB is limited to 1GB of memory.    ... In addition to what I've experienced with Hughes' data count vs Glasswire's, I've also noticed that many times when Windows shows a certain size in updates it's an Up To amount (hmm...where have I heard that term before? :)), but they don't always actually download that much. When I used to update my folks' Windows 7 and 8.1 laptop, I would see it say a certain amount, say 250MB, and it would start to download, as was evidenced by the modem's activity, and the percentage of completion would rise.  It would then stop downloading, but the completion percentage would continue to climb until it finally started to install.  Sometimes it would even stop downloading when only 10% or so were completed, then it would climb through the 100% mark and start installing without it ever downloading anything more from 11% on.    Windows is a fickle beast!  LOL.   At least your downloads went relatively speedily.  The last ones I did took over 24 hours.  SLOWWWW.     ... Hibernation has always been a fine line. Personally, I have locked down my Nexus 6 and it has been great. You can set certain Wi-Fi networks to act like Cellular when it comes to "restricting data", which prompts alerts if an app wants to do a large download, use Data Saver mode (prevents some apps from downloading/uploading in the background, you can unrestrict specfic apps manually), keep Wi-Fi on/off during sleep (consider setting to off), disabling push notifications, setting e-mail retrieval to manual, restricting auto-sync for photos, videos, music, books and certain Google Play store apps that like to sync to Drive. By connecting the WAP directly to the modem, I've eliminated the hub as the source of the problem. It is definitely some sort of DNS issue between the WAP and the modem. The replacement modem arrives late today. ... View more

This topic reeks of a desire for revenge/retribution. It is important that all users and potential users have at least a general understanding of what a satellite connection is ... and just as importantly isn't. A satellite internet connection is a connection type of last resort. It isn't comparable to ground based ISP's It has very real data and performance limits and for very good reasons. If satellite internet is your only option then a user has to learn how to get the most from it. That I'm not sure of, as I don't use sleep, but it might make it so you just have to click on the start screen to get it to go back to the desktop on waking up without having to enter a password.  I think you would only need to enter a password again if you actually log out of that user profile.  ...
