The answer to your question is: anything I try to do on the internet! If I want to download anything larger than a small email, I have to do it at 2 in the morning. Here are the latest test results: https://testmy.net/db/G3w_zc6gn Since the speed is about 10-15% of normal, on a good day, I suggest that you refund 90% of what I am paying for and not receiving. Who is getting priority on this beam? The Michigan Lottery? It certainly isn't the residents who are locked in their house...

Today I received yet another mash note about not returning the old modem, text below. I'm now told I have three days or I get billed for $125. Can somebody get the RMA cops off my back? A few weeks ago, Liz the wizard helped my response time by sending a new modem. She said I didn't need to return the old one. Today I got a mash note from hnscrm@hns.com wanting the modem back or they would charge me $125.00. How do I address this problem... the modem has gone to it's after life at the landfill. It appears that the new modem has solved the problem. My Testmy scores are much higher and download performance is much better. I have been tracking performance since I installed the new modem two days ago and get consistantly higher speeds. The Samknows charts show that the performance tanks at least once a day, typically at night, but is otherwise higher over all. thanks for your help! This has been my best experience with solving a problem in the 14 years I have been on Hughes!

For more than a month, my downloads have been slowing down, and are getting slower all the time. This is supported by the Hughes speed test, Sam Knows, and Testmy (capnkirk1). Performance was great for a long time, but is deteriorating rapidly. I was patient, assuming a temporary situation, but it is clearly becoming permanent. My speeds range from well below the contracted speed to less than dialup. Very Frustrating! What can you do to correct this prob

Frankly, Liz, the test you recommend, and its associated instruction set, further deflates my opinion of Hughes. You provide a speed test as part of the support options, but your engineers can't rely on your own diagnostic? I'm supposed to go to a third party site and utilize their test? Why does Hughes provide a speed test if your own people can't rely on it. I am totally flabbergasted!

I had posted in the community that my download performance was slower than upload, and is that way regardless of time of day. Of course, this initiated a string of nastygrams that I wasn't playing by the rules. So here's my data: Echostar XVII, beam 14, gateway 2, outroute 16. Here are the results from the Hughes speedtest. The sudden drop in performance is clearly evident. My SamKnows dashboard shows identical performance, with the degradation starting November 28th, and remaining at a low level, frequently below 1Mbs. Yes, my downloads are crawling, 1.2 Mbs per multiple hughes speed tests at various times of the day. It is a sad testimony when my upload speed is consistently faster than download. And... before everybody piles on me, I'm deliberately not posting in "tech" because past trys have yielded no results other than instructions on how to run a speed test. BTW, it's not raining or snowing and Santa's sleigh is not parked in front of the dish...

In response to the comments that have been posted, I am on beam 14. I am a participant in the Sam Knows study, which monitors my connection performance almost constantly, and provides up to the minute graphing and statistics over multiple time frames. In my case, the graph drops like a rock about 9/21, and has stayed there ever since. The degradation is very noticeable in overall performance.

Thanks for the reply, G, though it doesn't say much about the value of Hughes. Other clients, like Gmail, have huge numbers of members yet seem to be immune to this problem. Ah well, enough of the lacrimose whining. However, since the IP addresses are assigned dynamically, is there a way that I can force a reassignment when I get a rejection letter, hopefully to get to one that doesn't have a bad reputation?

I'm using Windows 7 Live Mail. No third party client. Problem now extends to other email addresses, not just AOL. Becoming very hard to run my business! Never know if an email is going to go through or be rejected.

Started out with mail sent to AOL accounts, now it is just about everybody! Here is the latest message response: This message was created automatically by the mail system (ecelerity). A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. 554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means can somebody please help here???

For several months, I have not been able to send mail to people with AOL accounts. The problem has not resolved itself, and is becoming very frustrating. The error message is always the same: https://postmaster.aol.com/error-codes#554rlyb1 421 4.7.0 mtaig-mbe02.mx.aol.com Error: too many errors... I tried opening a trouble ticket on AOL but they were looking for too much information that I did not have access to. HELP!

I agree, with one exception... the fact that the problem erupted simultaneously for many users, I don't think all of us screwed up our home networks in the same way at the same time. This is further corroborated by the fact that all of the rest of our on line aps work the same as they have for years (at least in my case). Also, apparently not all gen4 users are being affected by this anomaly, as you point out in your post. There was some dialogue a few days ago that this problem seemed to be associated with the Albuquerque node (hub/site/center... whatever) but there hasn't been any additional references to that since the original comments. IMHO...

There is one WISP in the area but he is so far away that I am in the second Fresnel zone of his signal. Compounding is the fact that when I say I live in the woods, I mean woods! We have trouble even getting a good cell signal. I have been working with the state and county for several years to get an internet solution up here, and have had zero luck. We did a market study for them, I located tower sites for them, identified back haul hubs... you name it. We even have federal funding available. The guys come into town waving the flag and promising service in 90 days... the next time you call them the guy is gone or the phone is disconnected... I told them that if they would give me a back haul, I would put up a WISP! The big guys like ATT won't invest in rural areas, they just want to cream skim where there is high density population numbers.
