I 've been with HN since 2004 (I think), and upgraded to Gen4 in 2014. I've been very happy with the service throughout, but especially with Gen4. The speed is excellent -- I just now finished watching two movies on Netflix, with nary a problem. Before Gen4 that was not possible at all. Updating software is usually very good too (though there have been some issues lately with the app store), and I actually updated my iPhone to iOS 10 in one hour last week (that was unexpectedly fast for a full OS update) and updated a Mac to Sierra in 2 hours (wow). Before Gen4, bad weather (sometimes even just a bit of rain or perhaps someone sneezing in Kentucky) would kill the reception, but now it takes some serious weather to cause problems. Over the decade I've been with HN, I've seen the company grow and the system improve, and I'm glad I'm with this company. Customer service is very good too -- way back when I first got HN, things were a bit rough with customer service because many of the agents didn't speak English very well. They were very nice and helpful people, but it was a bit hard to communicate. That's changed. Still very nice and helpful but communication is better. It was all done via phone then, but now we have so many options. And the cherry on top is this community (Amanda, Chris, Liz, and of course BirdDog, GWalk900, GabeU, Corrosive...all champions, some of whom apparently are up at dawn). I've read horror stories in the media about customer service issues with other providers, especially with a very big cable Internet provider (rhymes with bombast). I know that if they come here, I'll stick with HN - I had nightmare experiences with AOL, don't want to repeat that. I also have the provider that rhymes with Horizon and to be fair their customer service is fine, though nothing as remarkable as what I've experienced with HN. Love the ability to monitor the data usage using several different methods. I use the meter a lot to see I'm keeping in the green area. I don't remember running out of data with Gen4. Before that I got FAPped a few times. Using the tokens was a big production then too. 🙂 A shout out to installers too. When the pole that held up the dish broke (over a decade the base corroded and during one storm it just fell over), the installer came and did a wonderful job replacing the pole and making everything look nice and neat. When I upgraded to Gen4 the installer was a young ex-Marine, a really nice guy who did all kinds of backbreaking work in the sun to get the whole thing working and who tried to get me to buy a smaller package, concerned I was paying too much for my usage (this has been consistent in my experience -- the reps have never tried to up-sell). So, my 2 year contract with Gen4 went by very fast, and I plan to stick around for a long time -- and maybe upgrade to something else if something else is coming. New satellite? Even better speeds? I'm in.
