Dear Mr. Peter Newman, As a grandfather of 14 soon to be 15, the oldest having already dropped out of college, I laud your looking out for your parents. I too provide computer, smartphone and internet support as well as other things for my mother. Since you obviously have some working knowledge of these subjects surely you are familiar with latency. As the Champions have already told you, the ping response time is well within the good range. To address the comments regarding the speeds of your parents' connection, 8.26Mbps on the "Up to 10Mbps plan" is a nominal figure and should be considered acceptable. If the system is set up very well, from the dish alignment through the network to a well performing computer it will most likely exceed those speeds during times the Hughes network is "off peak". Now, as to why at other times they are only getting speeds of 2Mbps, When you drive somewhere and there is a lot of traffic you might complain but you understand why you can't go the speed limit. When there is only 1 road to your destination, and I assume that there are no other options than satellite internet at your parents home, you don't blame the highway, do you? BTW it is the highway's fault but the cost to rebuild it is usually not a practicality. Sincerely, Don Stephenson
