For the first 20 days new customers get basically unlimited allowance to update devices and such, the meters will reset daily. After that, they will start working normally. Be sure to check the meters daily though so you don't get caught unaware when the usage starts counting. You should have gotten an email explaining this but I'm sure many people miss it. And yea, you really need to get things under control as your data won't last long at all with use like that when metering kicks in.

Thanks, everyone. I think I'm all set - I have requested the cancellation for the future date, and the box will be shipped to the new address. I was just venting, it should't be this difficult. Cancel my service for the 29th, send my box now, end of story. That way I don't have to move the parts first and return later. It'll take me a few days to unpack all my boxes..... I also had to cancel my DirectTV, and their system works the same - BUT they have an agreement with UPS, so I can take whatever I have to return their before the move and get it shipped off. At least that's an alternative solution. Other than that, Hughesnet should really make sure the people who answer their phones speak decent English.

Unfortunately, it only works with certain Youtube videos, but that's not the tool's fault. It seems that most commercial videos, like music videos, fail. With most non commerical videos it works well.

I'm on Gen 5 and T-Mobile. I don't think I have any problems calling on WiFi. However, some things need to change for it to work. Try changing the WiFi calling settings to prefer WiFi over the cellular network or just turn on airplane mode and turn WiFi back on. Both of these will force the phone to go through the WiFi rather than trying to use cellular.

Join the club of customers that believed they would receive fast internet, from HughesNet, for their money. My wife and I are also counting the days remaining with this awful company. I have gotten attention when I reported their practices to the Better Business Bureau closest to their home office. We received a temporary discount. Thankful we got that. We agree that anyone that desires to get honest service for their money needs to look elsewhere.

There's only so much bandwidth available in a given chunk of spectrum over an area... J2 can easily handle 200Mbps, but that would be like telling only one person in a massive beam that they can get service. I did the math once upon a time, and it basically came out to, if everyone was to request data at one time, they wouldn't even see 500Kbps. There's just not enough spectrum there. Maybe micro-cells will help, but I don't think Geo-Sat can do small cells very easily.

Oh well that explains it then. I wish they wouldn't do that-I would rather have them cut it off... or warn me. I would not have downloaded if I'd known that. And I didn't check to see where my BB were but definitely didn't think I was almost out. I found a newer program to download stuff and it's a lot faster so I think I was downloading more than I realized. I rarely actually run out of BB. I will definitely be paying closer attention next time. Thanks!

With that said, though I don't have much of a problem with ads still getting through (I use Adblock Plus AND uBlock Origin), what does drive me up the wall is the fact that more and more sites are using videos that automatically play. Again, not so much because of seeing them, but because of the data usage, and with the videos, the data usage is even worse, of course. It's getting to the point that you can't even read a news article anymore without it being accompanied by a video, and most of the apps out there only block them from being seen rather than blocking them from downloading. CNN is awful for this. Ugh.

So I’m guessing that there is nothing that can be done on the etf.... I know that moving and apt complexes have their own guidelines, but I do wish there was a policy that could help waive or prorate it for less money. Had I not moved I would have kept Hughesnet and finished out my contract but unfortunately circumstances will not allow that. It is a lot of money to fork out, especially during a move. As I mentioned the company that is hired to install service for hughesnet in my area can only attach the dish in 2 locations. Roof and below my second floor apt in ground, but that would put it on the area of my downstairs neighbor apt.

Please excuse my lack of technical education. I'm looking at possibly purchasing a Fire Stick. I am on the 20GB plan with Hughesnet. Would you recommend using a Fire Stick with Hughesnet service? Should I upgrade? Is there another television viewing device or system you would recommend to work better with Hughesnet? .....I need some dependable guidance on this subject. (and explanations in plain English. lol )

Also one reason why I wanted a ground pole mount when my location was changed, much easier access for everyone especially during winter. Unless the site is so surrounded by obstructions that the dish needs the added elevation for good line-of-site then pole mount is the only way to go IMO.
