I am a user of the metered connection hack to control the timing of my update downloads.  Please be aware that Microsoft Office updates won't happen when you have metered connection set.  Office detects that updates are available and reminds you of that fact.  However, when you go through the series of prompts to actually get the update to download the download will silently fail.  This is despite the fact that it detects you have 'metered connection' set and verifies that you would like to override it for the purpose of the download.  I found that in order to get the update I needed to temporarily disable the metered connection setting.  I spent quite a number of cycles trying to figure out why the Office update would not complete.  ... I'm afraid you may be correct, it's just something I have to live with. I'm leary about leaving pages open that use any cpu or memory resources, especially when using Photoshop or Youtube but it appears I don't have a choice. @KaylobD09   Throttling speed is NOT a data cap.  Throttling speed is just that...throttling speed.  It's not cutting the service off, nor restricting the amount someone can download.  The data cap is on your full speed data, and when that is exhausted your speed is throttled, but you are not cut off, hence no data cap.  Nor is the statement that there is no data cap a blatant lie, as there isn't one.     In addition, when a person signs up for the service, they choose a plan based on the amount of full speed data, and it is explained in the same sales call that the speed of the service is throttled when that full speed data is exhausted, but the service is not cut off.     When it comes to streaming, or anything else done utilizing the internet, it's up to the customer to know what data is and to know what can and can't be done with the full speed data in their plan, and what can and can't be done when the service is throttled after that full speed data allotment is exhausted.    As for being able to do a lot of streaming in the beginning, during the first twenty days of your service you are in a relaxed bandwidth state, which means your data allotment is frequently reset.  HughesNet does this as a courtesy.  It's done so that devices can be updated/upgraded to current without it affecting what would be your normal monthly full speed data allotment.  After those twenty days the frequent resets stop and the data usage is counted like normal.  The data resets are explained in the Welcome email sent by HughesNet.     Your hobby and your career aspirations are not HughesNet's responsibility.  If gaming, and a future in that area, are very important to you, you have to do what you have to do to pursue that endeavor, just like anyone else.  If it's a serious pursuit you probably have to move to an area that has ground based internet service.      HughesNet provides internet service where others can't or won't.  HughesNet is not made for cord cutting and has never claimed to be the equivalent of ground based internet services, nor has it claimed to offer the same capabilities.  When a consumer purchases a product or a service they need to understand what they are buying, and they need to research that product before they do so.         ... Ok, my original mindset was focused on using parabolic dishes such as what we use now - this is apparently not the case. LEOs would use antennas with a more omnidirectional pattern, since antenna gain is not vital. Regarding the handoff protocols: I understand that would be similar to handoffs used with mobile phone towers, but in reverse. You would be stationary and the satellites would be moving. Now, the only question I have is how large a constellation you have... possibly three orbits (East Coast, Central, and West Coast) with 3 birds each? Unsure how many satellites you can actually put in an elliptical orbit (they call it elliptical, but it's actually a figure-8) before they crash into each other on the cross-over portion. ... I am having the same problem. I cannot view my invoices, current nor historical. I go to my.hugesnet.com and log into my account. If I try to view my invoice there is none. If I try to view the history there is nothing there either. It took several phone calls to customer service. In the last call I was instructed not to use Chrome and at the web site select PAY NOW at the top right. I was able to view the invoices after following that procedure. That was last week. Today I tried to view the current invoice by clicking on PAY NOW and again I cannot view the invoice. This is the error mesage I get: Status Account not found. One or more inputs are incorrect. If you would like to view or pay your invoice please try again using valid values or log in to your account. If too many invalid attempts have been made, wait for 30 minutes. When we ask for a better service they keep telling us it is not available. so we are stuck with what they offered us at 25 BUT every day it fluctuates so much it drives us CRAZY. Looks like Excede is rolling out their new Satellite now.  Still not available in my area.  😞   I'm going to keep checking.   150g unthrottled simply can not be beat.   Even their 50 gig plan beats HughesNet.  100/month vs 129.99/month.   If HughesNet would give me 50gigs at 100/month, I could live with that.   But they don't.   I know the arguments.  HughesNet doesn't have the capacity. HughesNet won't offer what they can't support.   I don't care about their problems.   All I care is getting as much as I can for as little as I can.  Just like every single other person and business out there.
