For Tech Support you really should post in the "Tech Support" area.    "I've been with them for about 4 months now and I don't ever stream or do any uploading, downloading during peak hours and I always use all, I SAID ALL, of my data in a short amount of time."   It seems from the statement above that you have a problem .... Hughes as your ISP makes data available to you. How you consume that data is up to you. I have always felt that my Router held the "keys to my Network Kindom". My Network, My Router, My Rules. While I have don't believe that Hughes has anything up their sleeve AND we are all behind a CGN server I still like to have as much control over my network as I can muster.   While I am still, and shall remain on Gen4, I would not enable the wireless portion of the HT2000w. Issues related to that are  supported in a number of ways, phone, email, chat and of course this forum if you post in the appropriate area ... Tech Support ..... Billing .....   Support of your  hardware and software is your responsibility or that of the publisher or manufacturer. If it is determined that the customers problem is not Hughes related they are sometimes referred to HTS ... a third party paid Tech Support firm. You also have the option of using local support companies or "Big Box" services such as Best Buys Geek Squad. Please note that I am not recommending any of the above. My Goodness !!!! This NOT a Gen5/Gen4 issue. This is a 5.0 ghz frequency issue. The HT2000w is a Modem first and primary, a Router (of sorts) as a secondary function and a Wifi source as a distant third. There are going to be issues with the 5 ghz band ... the very nature of 5 ghz is to have less "penetration" than the 2.4 band. In addition you have got a lot electronics packed into a one box and it does NOT have any external antennas that can be used and adjusted to change/alter the WiFi radiation pattern.   Wifi routers like to be centrally located and they like to be elevated, things that are hard to do with an entire Modem. You are making a mountain of a molehill, Turn off the HT2000w "radios", connect a decent or better grade Router that has a radiation pattern and features that meet your needs and the issue will be behind you. For all we know you have a big refrigerator in the way or steel partition studding or any number of environmental issues that can be addressed or overcome with a router with external antennas and better configuration options. In the end there is no kind of firmware update that is going to give an antenna-less unit the same performance as a good router. . Turn off the radios, get a good router, problem solved.       ... Wireless is fickle at best. The HT2000w is a work in progress at this point and firmware updates to address some wireless issues are in the works. The Netgear has external antenna, the HT2000w doesn't The Netgear, being a single device may shield better than the more tightly packed HT2000w   In my opinion the wirelees functions of the HT2000w are not yet ready for Prime-Time. My advice: Use the best personal router that you can afford that supplies the features you need ... muli-freguency performance, distance/radiation pattern, data tracking ......   You can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse and a sow's ear is what the wireless perfomance of the HT2000w is at this point.         ... @jc2 The purpose of a speed test is to measure a user's baseline system performance under a controlled set of conditions and to compare that baseline performance to that of other users. Those conditions are to run the tests with a single computer directly connected via Ethernet cable while having a single browser open to testmy.net. Running the test while connected via wireless introduces to many variables that fall outside the purpose of running speed tests: To determine and document baseline system performance levels.   As to the Hughes HT2000w Modem/Router/WiFi "combo-unit" ..... Hughes has been making Modems with rudimentary "router" functions ... for years. The HT2000w is the first however to offer wireless function so some bugs are to be expected.   Beyond that ... not all routers are created equal, not all router wireless functions are created equal. I would consider the router and wireless functions of the HT2000w to be very "basic".   The built-in WiFi capacity offers a degree of convenience to the less experienced user but at the cost of performance and enhanced function and features.   I can think of a number of reasons not to use the router/radio portion of the HT2000w A router is a "tool" and as the old saying goes: "Use the best tool for the job at hand."   There is no way that I would give up the performance and feature set of my Asus RT-AC3100 in favor of the "plain vanilla" HT2000w router/WiFi.   Don't like the router/WiFi performance of the Modems internal functions? Personally  I would disable  all modem internal wireless functions until such time as a new HT2000W  firmware update is released. I would  then use a personal router, preferably  one with a data tracking function. Set the router  LAN  IP to 192.168.1.1  so as to avoid IP conflicts  with the Hughes modem. Enable DHCP in the routers internal settings. Change the default GUI username and password, enable wireless  encryption  on both 24 and 5 GHZ frequencies. Disable all guest accounts  as well as WPS  and remote access. I suggest an Asus model  that has the Traffic Analyzer  function.   ... View more

Yes the SCC should come up. Reasons why it may not: IP address between the router and the modem. The Modem is hardwired for 192.168.0.1 That address can not be shared. The Routers LAN IP should be set to 192.168.1.1 to avoid conflict. DHCP should be enabled in the router.   There is a "connection path" of 192.168.1.1 (router), next station along the path is 192.168.0.1(modem). If you lose, for whatever reason connectivity to the router you then lose connectivity to the modem then hence your connection to the internet. Are you using 2.4 or 5.0 Ghz for wireless?   ...
