Watch your Data if You Have Apple TV+, Disney+, or Google Stadia

Since these new services have recently hit the market, we want to remind you that streaming media and games will use your monthly data allowance. Use the settings in each respective service to lower the stream resolution to conserve data. Keep in mind that even at lower settings, a significant amount of data will be used.

For example, playing games at the recommended minimum on Google Stadia will use 4.5 GB per hour.

It is important to note that Stadia’s speed and data requirements will not be the main contributing factor to playability (or lack of). We previously had to only worry about customers playing multiplayer games, but even single player games require very low (<150ms) latency to perform decently.

For Disney+, their recommended speeds are:

  • 5.0 Mbps for High Definition content
  • 25.0 Mbps for 4K UHD content

Watching multiple videos or using the Internet for other activities may require additional bandwidth.

If you exceed your monthly data allowance, your speeds will be reduced. You can always restore speeds by purchasing data tokens.
