Dial up is faster

My AT&T phone with 2 bars of Lte work better as a hot spot then Hughes net. I have the 50gb service, I've called a few times, unfortunately there isn't another provider or else I'd use them I just bought my first house in July, and got Internet, I feel used and abused.

theheckers64504,

First, make sure you are not out of data.  If not, see below.

To address speed issues, you should set up an account at testmy.net and perform some speed tests.

http://testmy.net/

The link below has the instructions to follow...

http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Pages/7001.aspx

Most important points:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem
-use the 12MB test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
-post your results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/[yourusername]

You say your AT&T 2-bar LTE connection works.... maybe you ought to give them a try?   I have Verizon where I live but it's not as reliable as Hughesnet and it's more expensive  (though now they let you carry over unused data, which is nice).

AT&T doesn't provide internet in my area, I just want internet that doesn't make you tube or Facebook buffer every 10 seconds, that shouldn't be to much to ask....

Ultra is $90/month here. Not complaining, just saying.

I thought if one had LTE then it was capable of internet through hotspot if a data plan, not just a voice plan. I access the internet on all my devices including computers using my phone as a hotspot. Maybe something I don't understand, but what's new.

I have AT&T for years and has always allowed hotspot. Maybe once more I am special.  🙂

My carrier is same as theheckers64504, that was point I was making. Maybe it varies by state or region but didn't know cell carriers did that. Thought 4G LTE service provided same plans and options across the board if that is what was available signal wise. I don't know what I don't know.

You can tether any phone with the right software. You must be careful with 3G but I hear 4G tethering is undetectable. On Vz anyway.

"AT&T doesn't provide internet in my area,"
That's too bad. I can use my Verizon wireless hotspot if need be. Not as good as Hughesnet for me, but it's there in a pinch.

No Ultra Plan, here.  The largest is the Max, with 20/50 for $129.99.  I have Pro Plus, which is 15/50 for $79.99, though I'm getting $10 off per month for the first 12 months for upgrading, which ends next month.

Though I can't get the Ultra Plan here, I do find it a bit comical that I could get an additional 5GB per month for $50 more with the Max Plan.  $50!  I could get 9GB for the same price in tokens!

Of course, I could save an additional $5 with automatic billing.  Oh, that's right, I can't.

Hopefully the new satellite will even things out a bit. Fingers crossed.
