Download and Browsing Speeds. I'm About Ready to Jump Ship!

Tis the season for unbearably slow download and browsing speeds apparently 😞  This has been going on for weeks!  It takes testmy.net 5 minutes to even complete the test.  I just did 5 speed tests on HN and 5 Web Reponse tests.  Here are the pathetic results:

Download:

1.14

1.38

1.42

.91 and

.94Mbps

Web Response:

2.7

2.3

2.2

2.4

3.1

I've been with HN for over 12 years.  I've been plenty unhappy with my test results but I don't remember anything this slow 😞

Not invisible, just a victim of the weekend. 🙂  The HN reps will be here Monday morning. In the meatime, you may want to post test results from testmy.net.  If you don't have an account there, you should create one, run some tests and then post a link to your results page.  See instructions below.

You should create a testmy.net account and perform 3-5 tests during different parts of the day, all using a 12MB manual download test. Then share the account results link with us here.

Please keep in mind that Hughesnet will only accept testmy.net and the official Hughesnet speed test results. Tests from other sites like speedtest.net are not accepted due to the compression technologies and latency that satellite deploys.

Most important points:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO ROUTER or Wireless devices)
-use the 12MB size download test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
-post your results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/C0RR0SIVE

For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please visit: http://customer.kb.hughesnet.com/Pages/7001.aspx

The Reps are on M-F from approximately 8AM to 5PM Eastern. They will be the ones to address your speed issues, but they will need these tests to do so.

The  Hughes speed test has been having issues so it is suggested that a series  of speed tests be done at testmy.net  using the following procedure.

The Hughes employees staff the community  9 to 5 eastern M-F.

Please run the tests while connected directly to the modem as a number of router settings can affect test results.

Welcome to help the Hughesnet Customer Service Reps get a head start on your speed concerns, you should create a testmy.net account and perform 3-5 tests during different parts of the day, all using a 12MB manual download test. Then share the account results link with us here.

It has been pretty bad of late for many, including myself. Just hoping once things settle down with the new satellite and all ground upgrades are completed it will get better for everyone. Fingers, toes, elbows, hands, legs crossed. Smiley Happy

Only if on Gen 5. Smiley Wink

OK guys, I'm slowly but surely starting to prepare for these tests.  I've bypassed the router.  I've done two test each on testmy and the HN speed test.  How can they be so different and HN allow the testmy results?  I did these back to back..Testmy/HN and then Testmy/HN again.  I'll send the proper format later but as of right now, two testmy download test registered 26 and 20Mbps.  While at the same time, HN came back with 14.55 and 14.3x.  If they accept both results, which will they take as the true download speed?  Once again...HN 13.56 and testmy 25 Mbsp (and I am signed into testmy).

Well I've fixed my speed problem!  I've upgraded to Gen 5 Smiley Wink  Acutually speeds started picking back up on their own but I negotiated a deal with HN for a NO cost upgrade.  What will I do with all those extra GBs?  I rarely use the 10 I have now and I signed up for 20GB.
