It has been my experience that file downloads and live video streaming suffer from very poor performance UNLESS I establish a VPN, then performance improves dramatically.
The VPN occasionally disconnects because it times out due to the extreme latency of the satellite connection, but the download/streaming performance is demonstrably better when using the VPN.
**WARNING** you'll burn through your data limits in no time as the VPN masks the data & HughesNet can't apply their Quality of Service (QoS)/data policing policies to the download/video stream.
