Gen 5 20 Gb Allowance Used Up Way Too Soon, Throttled 2.9 Mb Speed No Problem

We have had the same browsing usage since using Gen 4, now Gen 5 .

We are at a loss as to why our usage keeps rising, despite being very frugal - no videos except during the bonus time.. I disabled auto load of video in webpages., using all of the tips from El Dorado Sat's Alan. Our allowance keeps being exhausted now more than a week before our refill.

I am far from any neighbors, so no wifi theft.

In upgrading to Gen 5 , we have been watching videos etc after our 20 Gb allowance is gone during anytime .The videos load fine , no buffering, despite the 2.9Mbs speed of throttled service.

We noticed a 45 minute utube video was fully loaded whilst we were 2/3 of the way into the video.

The 2.9 Mbs speed gives us the same video quality impressive as with Gen 4 we wouldn't of had this. It must be the data compression improvement Gen 5 has.

We are very happy with Gen 5, No Worries 🙂

It's great that the FAP speed is still enough to stream videos for you.  That's definitely a plus with Gen5.

With that said, if your main device being used is a Windows based computer, Glasswire is a great program for telling you just what is using data on that computer.  It's free, and it's here.... https://www.glasswire.com/ .  Using it can help you to determine why your 20GB is being used so fast.

If you decide to download and install it, make sure to, in the options on the Usage page, set it to "Incoming & Outgoing" and "External".  That way it is only measuring the internet data and not data being moved back and forth inside your computer.

No Windows here, 10 years using Linux. The FAP of Gen 5 is very usable.

BitMeter OS works with Linux, and it's very similar to Glasswire.

Very cool, ecoalex! It's good to know that "throttled," which used to mean #@#$$%&@@!!! now means "woot! we can still watch videos!"  🙂

Great cat pic.
