We’re new customers, getting near the end of our second month with HughesNet. At first, we were happy, getting over 40 mbps, for at least the first few days! Ever since then, it’s been so crappy for the most part! Sometimes we can’t even access our HughesNet account to check the speed! And I would like to say, that on HughesNet speed test, it’s not always giving a correct speed either. We use testmy.net which was recommended by HughesNet. I’m so frustrated and so is my husband! We love to relax and enjoy a movie (Netflix, Acorn, or the like) in the evening. There’s so much buffering that there’s NO relaxation! I really wish we had not gotten HughesNet because there’s no way out of it without losing money! We’ve tried lots of things and had techs out, but no solving the problem. And we’re not on FAP!
Hello CJC,
Welcome to the community and thank you for posting. I apologize for the buffering issues. I would recommend snoozing the Video Data Saver, while streaming. To do so, you would go here, go to My Account > Settings, and snooze the Video Data Saver. This feature is to help lower the resolution of what you are watching to save you on data. In some cases, it struggles to communicate to the app you are using on certain devices and causes the buffering issue. Please let me know if this helps with the buffering.
Thanks,
*Felicia*
Been there done that! It only gets worse! But thanks for trying to help! We’ve even gone so far as to disconnect ALL devices except the device we’re using! Doesn’t work either!
CJC,
So we can begin addressing your speed concerns, please create a testmy.net account and run 3-5 tests during different parts of the day. Post your test results link here in your thread. Please keep in mind that HughesNet will only accept testmy.net and the official HughesNet speed test results. Tests from other sites like speedtest.net are not accepted due to the compression technologies and latency that satellite deploys.
Most important points to remember during this test:
-do the tests while directly connected to the HughesNet modem with a LAN cable (NO third party Router or Wireless devices can be used)
-use the 25MB size download test file
-If testing upload instead of download, you must use a 4MB size upload test file
-space each test at least 5 minutes apart
-post your results URL here, it may look something like http://testmy.net/quickstats/C0RR0SIVE
For a more in depth guide on running the tests, please visit: http://hninfo.us/speedtest
Thanks,
*Felicia*
