HughesNet limited data cannot compete with the competition

Hughesnet needs to keep up with the competition and provide unlimited data. All internet companies I have researched provide unlimited data. On top of it we had a problem where our data was depleted even when not connected to the internet! Of course repeated phone calls and none of their techs could solve the problem. Limited data and it depletes when not even connected to the internet? No thanks! We finally have more options where we live so it will be bye bye Hughesnet.

Mark, their competition is one other residential satellite internet provider, they don't provide unlimited data either. Only way they could is with may more satellites which isn't possible due to costs at this time.

HughesNet does not compete directly with ground based unlimited satellite providers.

Well there are other internet providers beyond satellite so yeah they compete with them too now. Until recently we had no other choice but hughes but now we do. Tough luck for hughes.

Again they do not compete with ground based ISPs, totally different technologies and capabilities. Satellite internet is pretty much for those with no other choice.

Happy for you that you now have other options.

Also Comcast is experimenting with ways to cap there service. Just read they are trying it in some places in Florida. Eventually all will set some kinds of caps on there service. Thou they are higher caps.

Comcast is usually 300GB, market depending.
AT&T ranges from as low as 75GB to 500GB, depending on location.
Verizon FIOS starts to eyeball you at the 1TB mark roughly, frequent hits result in termination of service.

All three of those are land based, they are not considered direct competition for the market Hughes aims for, which is locations that are not serviced by land-lind internet options.  Unlimited will not happen.

Re: HughesNet limited data cannot compete with the competition

Unlimited plans with Hughesnet are not a possibility at this point due to a lower amount of throughput compared to it's competition.  That throughput has to be divided between many users, so it must be restricted, lest everyone's speed would be reduced to barely anything due to so many people trying to stream.

Hughesnet has a two lane road compared to most others having a 20 lane highway.  Only so many cars can go down that two lane road or there's a traffic jam.  They MUST restrict it so all of their customers can get on and use it.

Re: HughesNet limited data cannot compete with the competition

Well, at least for those of us with no other real choices, it is our garbage. HughesNet at least provides service where others won't.

Pretty good garbage here.

Enjoy your new service.
