I do believe I have unintended data loss down to ZERO! :-)

I've never had much data use I couldn't account for, but now it's down to zero! This is thanks to the many threads I've read where the Champions and Champions-to-be (GabeU) have ever so patiently (for the most part) posted and reposted all the things a person can do to prevent data being used for things we don't want.

I check my data usage twice a day--when I first wake up and just before I go to sleep. Over the past few days I've had the exact same data in the morning that I had when I went to bed the night before. And my usage during the day is exactly what I expect it to be when I check it at night.

Granted, my setup is a simple one. I have three wireless devices, one PC laptop and two iPhones. They are turned off when not in use. My iPhones aren't used as phones because I don't have cellphone service out in the boonies where I now live. I have a landline that is not connected to Hughsnet. My tv, likewise, is completely separate.

Nevertheless, every bit of data counts! So, after many hours of reading through old threads, I ran tests and did several things suggested by the community, and voilà! Zero leakage! 🙂

Yes, I confess, I'm a nerd! :-). I'm a researcher by profession, it's what I do, lol!

But truly, I appreciate very much the time you all take to help people like me. Even though the advice wasn't directed at me, it's still valuable and I'm sure many others have benefited too. Thanks! 🙂

(I've got so much data left, I might just go crazy and watch a documentary BEFORE 3:00 AM, hahaha!)

It's good that you went through and saw the many posts regarding this very issue and used the information to your advantage.  I truly wish many more people would do the same.  I'm glad that you got to down pat.  Researching this kind of thing is great, especially being that it's something that's beneficial to you.

Nine times out of ten I'm using just a single desktop, directly connected to the modem, and nothing else, so mine's pretty easy to keep an eye on.  I do have two laptops, but for the most part, when I use them, it's just to update them.  LOL.  I do use one of them occasionally for more, but not much lately.

There really is no such thing as unexplainable DDDD (Dreaded Data Drain Disease).

GW, there are some that would disagree.

Computers and networking are not universally understood.

I have my tightened down pretty good:

I think there's always an explanation. The tricky part is finding the right place to look.

It's 2:05 PM my time (Pacific) and I just checked my usage. I usually do it first thing in the morning, but was running late for church. So late, late last night, when I went to sleep, my anytime was at 85%, or to be more precise, at 17140 MBs. My bonus is at 98%, or 49,135 MBs. I just now checked, and it's EXACTLY the same. Oh yeah baby! 🙂 Twelve days to refill on the 16th.

Just watched two 45 min programs on YouTube back to back. Set them to the lowest definition possible--144p. Each one took about two minutes to load. Watched them straight through with no buffering. Streamed perfectly! Data use? 177 MB. Yes, it CAN be done! 🙂

Tightened down pretty good here, too.  This includes two of my computers with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update earlier last month and two downloads of Linux Mint (two versions).
