Looking to slightly extend coax inside house

Hello, Community! We are in the process of converting the room which currently houses our modem (HT2000W I believe) into a nursery, and want to move the modem into the closet in the same room. There is not enough slack from the wall to reach, however.

Is it possible to simply buy another length of coax, maybe 15', and a female to female adapter and simply run it that way? Or does it require a particular rating of coax without any interruptions? The extension should still be well within the maximum run length from the dish. Any help would definitely be appreciated!

Provided you use a good quality quad shielded coaxial with pure copper conductor in the center, and a decent barrel splice, I don't see why you couldn't extend it a few feet.

Hi MrCRJP,

Thanks for reaching out. I double-checked with our field services department on this since @Freddie, our field services expert, is out of town, and they suggest getting a tech out there. If the coax extension or replacement is not done correctly or poor quality cable is used, signal could degrade and cause a truck roll in the end anyway. Additionally, placing the modem in a closet could reduce Wi-Fi signal throughout the house.

Let me know if you need me to dispatch a tech for you to help with your coax situation.
