My speeds are good via testing, but....

HI,

     I have only been a hughesnet account holder for a few weeks. The first few days were great, and wifi seems to be ok when streaming, but the lan connection is my issue. The lan connection it takes sometimes 3 minutes for a video to start and, 1 minute to even load a website fully so I can interact with it. Any help would be great. Using the reccomended speedtest but the forum Im getting around 25 to 31 mbps! not sure what else to do. I have gen 5 thats all I know.

@sarahE

Is this happening with one LAN cable connected device or multiple LAN cable connected devices?

Have you tried one of the other LAN ports on the back of the HughesNet modem?

Do you have another LAN cable you can try?

With a LAN cable connected device, what is showing for your LAN throughput result when you go to this modem page?  The test will start immediately after opening the page, and it normally takes a second or two to finish.

Re: My speeds are good via testing, but....

@GabeU   I am using the top port, and I have not tried another port on the modem yet, as I just left the wayt he installer set it up. I can try anther cable and port as you have suggested. I have no other lan cables connected only a computer.  The results of the test are below.

LAN Throughput is ***** 278.62 Mbps

@sarahE

A LAN throughput of 278.62Mbps is great.

It's likely that a HughesNet rep is going to have to help you with this.  With a LAN throughput that high there should be no issues, especially when you're not having problems doing the same types of things via WiFi.

The reps are on M-F from approximately 9AM to 6PM EST.  One should reply soon, though it may take a bit longer than normal with all of the COVID-19 related things going on right now.

Yeah, that's pretty high.  But, are you seeing that result from testmy.net?  The reason I ask is that their latency results are often quite high for some reason.

The best latency values you can get are from running a traceroute and a ping test to various websites.  If you're using Windows, open your command prompt and type, for an arbitrary example, and without the quotes, "tracert google.com".  For a ping test, it's "ping google.com".  You can use the IP address as well, but I find it easier to just use the web address.  You can run these two tests to various sites to get an idea of your latency.

Re: My speeds are good via testing, but....

 I did that @GabeU  im not sure what this means. This is getting ridiculous though. It took 3 minuteds to open google, and then 8 minutes for a 3 minute youtube video just to buffer enough to play, and then another 6 minutes for it to finish. Netflix wont even load anymore. Im so ready to just give up!!!!!!

@sarahE

I'm aware your comments were directed at me.

Your latency values are good, so I don't know what could be causing a problem like you're experiencing, especially just simply opening a web page.  Congestion is high, but it shouldn't be so bad that it takes three minutes to open a simple web page.

Because they haven't replied as of yet, I'll tag a couple of the reps so they'll be sure to see this thread and help you.  It won't be until at least tomorrow, however, when they do so.  Also, the reps may require speed test results to help them in their troubleshooting.  These are the instructions for performing those tests.

Re: My speeds are good via testing, but....

@GabeU will do I created the account. Part of the issue I am having is that speed tests are fine. The all come out to 30 50mbps every single time with out fail. Every test I have ran says speeds are fine, but I just opened google an set a timer, and it took 1 minute 13 seconds to open the verizon.com page and then another 20 seconds to actualy load the site to where I could log in. Thats why I dont understand if the speeds all test great then what could possibly be the deal? thank you Gabe!
