Re: Guess What - emails won't send

There have been several posts and different settings given as potential solutions. Have you tried any?

Re: Guess What - emails won't send

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: Cancer free', Account: 'mail.hughes.net', Server: 'smtp.hughes.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

So, it's port 587 today? Does anyone within the HughesNet organization know what port to use or are we gonna try 1-999?

(I've never used SSL in the umpteen years I've have had service. I can receive just fine on 110 with no SSL)

Thanks for trying to help a brother out, but it no worky.

Re: Guess What - emails won't send

I've got over 12 tickets revolving around this same issue.  I've been on the phone with Hughes representitives which seem to know next to nothing.  The problems are on Hughes end and revolve around them switching from their  e-mail platform of 2.0 to 3.0  on or about 11-3 or 11-4 (what ever that means)

I've got a business account that is trying to run  4 businesses through a company that can't seem to get its e-mail to work.

At this point, I've got to start looking for a viable substitue because I cannot afford to stand by and wait on this level of incompetence.

I've spent several hundred dollars on new software with Microsoft and my IT specialist all to find out this is an internal Hughes issue.

You seriously cannot beleive a word they say.

Greg, Are you looking for things like Gmail, or do you need something else for your businesses?

Re: Guess What - emails won't send

Good question.   We have 4 businesses and I've been told by my IT guy that we employ on an as-needed basis that I could have my own "hosted" address, etc.   I don't know if I want to go that route and have to deal with all those separate e-mail folders or just migrate to a gmail (or similar) acct.   I recently got a new(est?) version of Business 365 Outlook which will allow me to do anything I want.

I REALLY hate thinking of going through my whole list of on line accounts that I have set up with my hughes.net address over the past decade plus of service I have had with them.  That amount of work over this issue, coupled with the poor responses (none to clueless) from Hughes has left me with a very bad taste in my mouth.  Previously, I have had nothing  but excellent repsonses from them on connectivity issues and the normal issues that most encounter.  Now they don't preform as they promise (call backs or follow-ups)    As a rural business owner who is totally dependant upon e-mail to transfer secure documents, I'm hesitant to do all that work to migrate to another more costly servce or to an outside source like (but not limited to) like gmail.

Maybe it is just me not being totally up to speed on platforms etc, but I just need a reliable system I can count on in my own mind before I start investing time in this task.

Re: Guess What - emails won't send

It's definitely a very difficult choice. I use Gmail a lot for non-work-related email and I've used it for long enough that i feel comfortable with it, and I only use it in the cloud (as once I lost everything when my hard drive got fried by lightning).  For work, the firm uses Outlook (I personally don't care for Outlook very  much).

I feel I need to go lie down after reading about all you'd have to transfer from one account to the other.  It's certainly not a pleasant task and it will be time consuming.  I wonder if there's a way to automate the process? Remember the slogan "there's an app for that"? I wonder if there's some kind of tool for this task.

I really hope this issue, which seems to be affecting some people (though not everyone...weird), gets resolved quickly.  I think though if it were me, I'd take a deep breath and start looking for ways (hopefully automated ones, if they exist) to get everything transferred (I'd back up all the data too).

Re: Guess What - emails won't send

I'm going to leave that searching process up to my IT guy.  He's been very helpful.  As far as Outlook goes, I do not like this version as well as I did my 2007 version.  My "issue" why I stick with Outlook is the close to 15 years of archived emails that I routinely seem to use.

Everything seems to have its downside or level of "work" that I'm going to have to dedicate to.  8 typewriten pages of account names with accompanying user names and passwords is not something I look forward to towards our businesses year end and communications with business partner.

Another related issue in my trouble shooting is that my webmail w Hughes doesn't work either.  Additionally, my wife's business email she was using was just wiped away with the Hughes 2.0 to 3.0 migration.    I won't even go further there.   Suffice to say 2 unhappy campers with Hughes at the moment.  The amount we pay $200/mo is certainly no small amount.  Slowly looking for alternative solutions as time permits.

Thanks for letting me vent here.  Although it doesn't resolve the issues at least others can see that problems do exist.

What ports (in or out) should I try now?

Is Hughes going under?

It's sort of the opposite here, though similar in using multiple emails.  I use Gmail for important correspondence, like with insurance, Social Security, etc.  I use Outlook for my personal email, including my bills and shopping, though primarily because I've had the same MSN email address for a little over 20 years now.  The only thing I use my HughesNet email for is Community notifications.  Were that not a requirement for the notifications I'd probably have them sent to my MSN address.

Were I just starting out I'd likely use Gmail for everything.

Hopefully they'll get this all straightened out soon.  I know changing the settings Mark has mentioned has helped some, but for others it seems something else may be going on.
