I have a hard time believing that my speeds early morning can be well above what was advertised, and by afternoon/evening/night be under 2 Mbps down. This was what I just tested on Hughes speed test. I'm not here to make accusations of Hughes for overselling a product, but feel I've had enough service providers and at some point all have come short of capacity causing me to try to find one that met expectations. I have satellite for TV so don't do the movie downloads or gaming. So the only time I need at least some of the speed advertised is the occasional basketball game that's blacked out that might be streamed. Tried that here a while back, and spent most of my time watching the buffering circle, so gave up. Another curiosity to me is the upload speeds being twice (or more) than download speed. Long story short, download speeds this morning between 35 Mbps-38 Mbps. This evening between 1.08 Mbps and 2.31 Mbps down. Uploads of 2.97 and 3.28 Mbps. Beam ID 62, Gateway 13 Outroute 6 Signal strength at 90. Anyone seeing this much variation. Attn mods my speeds are on your test site. If you have an answer let the community know. Thanks for listening.
Speed is back to better than advertised this morning at 10 central time. 39 Mbps down. Some of yesterdays fault was mine for not recognizing the huge (probably in excess of 4 GB) being downloaded for Windows 10 Fall Creators vers 1709. Wish Microsoft had a way of letting us know when they were doing such a huge download, and it could be scheduled during the bonus hours. That being said I still think I'm having a slow down during evening hours due to traffic demands. If I was getting even half of advertised I think I could probably stream a basketball game without buffering. I still think Hughes could be more upfront and timely when they have so many common issues.
In the Texas Panhandle, had the service since Jan.3, 2018 - our daytime speeds are the same as yours, however from 4-10pm our speeds average about 500KBPS - and at times 40-60KBPS - I have contacted tech support, same song second dance, 3-5 days before engineering will contact you. Have modem plugged into wall (as MODs recommended) and am currentlly using laptop with no ethernet port to plug the modem into so they are saying my speeds aren't going to be valid - UGH - wish I had started recording my speeds when desktop was still available. Have all devices except Dish and laptop disconnected, still no improvement at night, even hard to get onto internet. Go to testmy.net and register to keep track of your speeds, also recommended by mods - good luck - wish we had more options out here - but we don't. But they are advertising heavily in our region right now INSTEAD of saying STOP, we need to help our existing customers!!!
Sure seems like it's a matter of too many users for the data available. My tests tonight showed 2 to 3.5 Mbps down, and still upload speed about the same. I've never had upload speed as good or even better than the download speed with any other ISP.
Hi waterfowl,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the community! Thank you for running speed tests as well-- were these done while hardwired to the HughesNet modem? To be doubly sure we're isolating the computer doing the speed tests, please have your wifi disabled during testing. Here's the HT2000w manual for reference.
I've run remote diagnostics on your site to ensure the HughesNet equipment is working normally, and everything checks out fine. Once I have newer speed tests done from an isolated machine, I'll escalate your case up to our engineers here at corporate.
Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are much appreciated.
Yes computer is hardwired to the HT2000W. No wireless devices on at the times of testing. I ran 2 tests on your site tonite, a few minutes ago and the first was 1.79 Mbps down, the second test 11.03 Mbps. Upload speeds have not been a problem, in the 2.5-3.50 Mbps. Thanks for responding. I do still have a case ID #108423070 from 12-27-2017. you might want to share with the engineers.
Hi waterfowl,
Thank you for the confirmation and additional information. I'll escalate up to engineering for their input since we currently don't have any pending action or notices for your beam. Once I have any other instruction or news for you we'll let you know.
Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are much appreciated.
@Liz, @happytexann, Liz, not sure if you have access to my speed tests or not (I assume you do) but just in case here are are a few of the latest: Sure appears to be getting better. These are from Hughes site, and pretty well line up with testmy.net speeds (I only test download on the latter.)
