When using Skype, I can see/hear others just fine.  However, instead of seeing me, they see a human-shaped smudge (very choppy/pixelated), and there is roughly a 5 second delay before they can hear my speech.  I believe I need a faster upload speed.  I've already contacted HughesNet twice about this issue, and they've "boosted" my signal to the extent that they can, but it's still not sufficient for video conferencing.  So, it looks like I'll end up cancelling my HughesNet service.  I do a lot of video conferencing for my business, and my HughesNet salesperson told me that Skype would work on their system. That wasn't an outright lie -- because Skype does technically "work" -- however, my customers deserve to see more than a smudge on their screen when Skyping with me.

Last paragraph here says it all: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10288/how-much-internet-bandwidth-do-i-need-with-skype-connect

Not even recommended for voice let alone video. The mobile part does surprise me as my latency on it runs around 20-30 ms.

Hi sharetheace,

Skype does work with our service but there are factors that can affect how well it works. We've used Skype in our lab here using a Hughesnet connection with no problem. Quality of the stream were decent as well. Are you connected through WiFi or directly connected to our modem?
